There is already a lengthy article on this festival at Ganesh Chaturthi. Unfortunately, I only realized this after I had spent a considerable amount of time copyediting the original version [1]. Any material in this article that could add to Ganesh Chaturthi should probably be merged to it and this one made into a redirect. Another possibility is to merge it into the Pune article. There is difference between Ganesh Chaturthi and Sarvjanik Ganoshotsav.Sarvjanik Ganoshotsav "was started" by Tilak, whereas Ganesh Chaturthi is something which was/is already there from centuries. "Sarvjanik" Ganoshotsav was started in last century. AbhiSuryawanshi (talk) 16:41, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Copy-pasted from WT:IN. Abhi, yes, but there exists a good section in Ganesh Chaturthi on Tilak's contribution to the way the festival is celebrated. The Ganesh Chaturthi article is quite small (for a festival of such importance and magnitude, and considering that there is likely to be no dearth of sources), and splitting the article further will not really be of much use, when the same content can be included coherently in the main article itself. Tilak's contribution to the way the festival is celebrated is so huge that the Ganesh Chaturthi article will be incomplete without it :) Lynch716:52, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
so then should it not be merged with the article, where someone looking for info about it can see all the relevant info on the same page? Im not ready to vote on it yet, but im leaning towards merge.Beefcake6412 (talk) 06:40, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge any salvageable material and redirect to Ganesh Chaturthi. The Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav is an integral part of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in various parts of the nation. Having a separate article makes no sense, since the information is more effective in the Ganesh Chaturthi article. The festival itself and the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav are almost inseparable in many parts of the country, so information about these celebrations should be in the main article instead of causing confusion to readers.
