I added a map. Alekjds talk 02:57, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The link of current note 1 to Bayramiç is to the wrong Bayramiç, linking to a city northwest of the Sea of Marmara instead of the Bayramiç village and town (I think) north of Kaz Dağı (Mount Ida). I will fix it soon, but first I want to pin down the actual locations of ancient Skepsis and Palae-Skepsis which, based on an initial effort, may not be easy. This is information I need, so I will continue the effort but perhaps someone knows the actual latitude and longitude coordinates of these places, somewhere on or near the north slope of Ida. — Blanchette (talk) 17:50, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Palae-Skepsis is a challenge, but the location of the Archaic/Classical city is well known as a search of Turkish articles will attest. I have located a good map showing where early 20th-century scholars located Skepsis in Walter leaf's Strabo on the Troad and here is a map excerpt with the following description:
Using Google Earth and Bing Maps, I have verified that the photo accompanying this article [[1]] was taken from a position close to that of a photo looking southeast from Skepsis appearing as Plate XVI-B in Leaf's volume. The landscape features from the 2009 photo are identifiable on the Bing and Google maps and the Google Earth and Leaf XVI-B mountain skylines match. I changed the coordinates previously given in this article to the correct ones. —Blanchette (talk) 00:20, 28 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Update: Replaced text link with map thumbnail in above post. —Blanchette (talk) 14:16, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
