In the Family Guy bit, Einstein really doesn't kill God. There is no evidence of that in the clip. The wikipedia page claims that the shrink ratio is 5:8, but the official Shrinky Dinks website claims it shrinks down to 1/3rd its original measurements (thus the "9 times brighter" claim, which makes sense; 1/3rd the length and width reduces it down to 1/9th the area of the original piece).
The video evidence provided on the site supports this idea, hence my request for clarification. Is the 1:3 ratio only for "Official" Shrinky Dinks (and thus the ratio varies based on which brands are used) or has this ratio changed over time? Veled (talk) 00:50, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have a problem with "the plastic shrinks by about five-eighths" anyway. Confusion with shrinking to 5/8ths, especially. All kinds of meanings could be meant, or understood. Is it now 62.5% of original or 37.5%? Though the latter is close to a 1:3 new:old size. Still, could be worse. This should be made consistent. The original was 3/8ths (as edited by 69.113.201.156 (talk) at 22:43, 28 October 2007. "...the plastic shrinks into a much smaller (about 3/8ths the original size)...")
Then it was edited to be "...the plastic shrinks by about 5/8ths and..." (as edited by Pgan002 (talk | contribs) at 04:00, 5 December 2007). This is less clear for sure.
Since 3/8ths is very close to 1/3, and the official website uses 1/3 (and it's probably pretty approximate) that this article should go with 1/3 Ian TO (talk) 23:30, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
