This article is or was the subject of a Wiki Education Foundation-supported course assignment. Further details are available on the course page. Student editor(s): Ncomar1.
Bobsley (many victories in soviet times and Republic times since 1991. both by women and men sportists),
motosports - Sergis / Rasmanis / Stupelis on motocycle with sidecar,
F-2000
shooting with pistols (if i remember right there was one chempion during early soviet times)
chess - Mr. Tals
biathlon - Bricis, Piksons
Strongman competitions - Bergmanis
weight lifting - Scerbatiks (Ščerbatiks) (He's a politician now, by the way :) )
Tennis recently - 2 new talents - Gulbis and Lejnieks
judo - Zelonijs
voleyball
handball
bobsleigh, biathlon, tennis and weight lifting definetly should be added, as well as motosports
btw, before Bergmanis started to participate in Strongman competition also he was weightlifter...
I don't think that judo should be added, because only achievement of Zelonijs is Bronze in Sydney. That's all! Should we add all sports in who Latvians have won at least one medal in Olympics? Same for shooting - only one athlete (Afanasijs Kuzmins) which has won several medals in Olympics. Is he able to make his sport as one of the top in Latvia?
About tennis - are you sure Lejnieks is a big talent? He hasn't showed anything until now, I'd rather put Andis Juška, even he isn't called a young talent anymore. Also you shouldn't forget about Larisa Neiland. Gragox07:55, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
