Capitalisation of 'the Marias'[edit]

MOS:THEBAND (aWikipedia guideline) states that band names that have "The" in the name, should not have "the" capitalised when in the middle of sentences. Should the Marias be an exception to this, and if so, why? — AP 499D25 (talk) 10:58, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Personally, I think it should follow the Wikipedia guideline and not be capitalised mid-sentence. The guideline represents wide consensus across many editors out there.
It is also quite common practice outside of Wikipedia too, see for example how it's called "the Beatles" in these three recent news articles: [1][2][3] and in this Britannica article: [4].
Furthermore, it looks a bit weird having 'The' capitalised – "A new album has been released by the Marias and it is high on the charts!" sounds better than "A new album has been released by The Marias and it is high on the charts!". Much like how you wouldn't capitalise 'the' in "Optional features of the BMW 3 series". Sometimes we drop "the" entirely in cases where it would be awkward to include it – e.g. "The best Marias album" instead of "The best the Marias album". — AP 499D25 (talk) 01:48, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
personally, there are other things to worry about such as the war in Ukraine, the earth that is literally burning, the cost of living, healthcare, and human rights being stripped away from people. (Personal attack removed) by the way, The Marias are being targeted, because I've seen "The Strokes" with the T capitalize, (Personal attack removed) 2A01:B747:18A:314:8021:F42E:D9E9:9B34 (talk) 20:08, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are editing against a Wikipedia guideline. Guidelines represent consensus widely throughout editors which should normally be followed, unless there's an exception not to do so. (You can read more about it at Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines.) However, I do not see an exception on this talk page stating that 'The' in the Marias should be capitalised like so, exempting from the Manual of Style/Music § Names (definite article) guideline. Have a look through various sources (e.g. news articles) covering the Marias, see if they capitalise 'The' mid-sentence or not, count how many of them capitalise it, how many don't, and write/list them down here if possible, like how I did in my reply above. — AP 499D25 (talk) 10:02, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

as of 10 nov 2023, they collaborated with artist 'eyedress' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyedress) on the song 'Seperate Ways (feat. The Marías)' which could be added to both the history and the 'singles' list (maybe)

also, since 'mañana' is on the singles list, shouldn't 'otro atardecer' with bad bunny also be on the singles list? Menbead (talk) 17:32, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. M.Bitton (talk) 23:55, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
at the end of the "History" section, their collaboration with eyedress should be mentioned, for example:
In 2023, they collaborated with Cuco on the song "Si Me Voy" released as a single. In 2023, they collaborated with Tainy and Young Miko on the song『Mañana』from Tainy's album Data. They also collaborated with Eyedress on the song "Seperate Ways"
and then in the singles section, the line after '『Mañana』(with Tainy and Young Miko) (2023) ' could include seperate ways as well, so ' "Seperate Ways" (with Eyedress) ' Menbead (talk) 21:01, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
they also recently released a second song with the same artist, eyedress, so instead the history section could be changed to:
In 2023, they collaborated with Cuco on the song "Si Me Voy" released as a single. In 2023, they collaborated with Tainy and Young Miko on the song『Mañana』from Tainy's album Data. They also collaborated with Eyedress on the song "Seperate Ways" and later "A Room Up In The Sky".
it could also be put under the singles section as well then, e.g.
"A Room Up In The Sky (with Eyedress)" Menbead (talk) 17:16, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Pinchme123 (talk) 03:57, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
i'm not entirely sure why this change needs a source given that their collaboration with triathalon, their collaboration with bad bunny or their collaborations with cuco or tainy do not have a source between them BUT here are a couple:
https://www.stereogum.com/2245781/eyedress-a-room-up-in-the-sky-feat-the-marias/music/ - mentions both tracks and a brief interview with Eyedress
https://www.thelineofbestfit.com/news/eyedress-and-the-marias-reconnect-on-new-single-a-room-up-in-the-sky - pretty much same as above
https://www.rcarecords.com/news/eyedress-and-the-marias-team-up-on-dreamy-new-single-a-room-up-in-the-sky/ -same as the last two
once again i have absolutely no clue why this needs a source but hopefully this should do! Menbead (talk) 02:31, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: The entire verbatin proposed claim statement has not been included with the request. Providing only fragments of the requested text does not provide the reviewing editor with the adequate amount of text needed to determine whether the claim has merit.  Spintendo  23:16, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
okay im not entirely sure what you mean but:
    - on the page itself, in the History section after it mentions two other collaborations with other artists in 2023 it could mention two new releases. the complete line could look something like this:
In 2023, they collaborated with Cuco on the song "Si Me Voy" released as a single. In 2023, they collaborated with Tainy and Young Miko on the song『Mañana』from Tainy's album Data. They also collaborated with Eyedress on the song "Seperate Ways" and later "A Room Up In The Sky".
    - and in the Discography section, under Singles two new entries could be added, which could look like:
    "Seperate Ways" (with Eyedress) (2023)
"A Room Up In The Sky" (with Eyedress) (2023)
if you need a snippet of text from one of the sources about this, from https://www.stereogum.com/2245781/eyedress-a-room-up-in-the-sky-feat-the-marias/music/:
' Last month, [Eyedress] teamed up with LA indie-poppers the Marías on the smooth, breathy single “Separate Ways.” Today, they’re back together on another new single... “A Room Up In The Sky” '
if there is anything else i need to include or mention in the same message i will be more than happy to provide it although im not entirely sure what the point of this is but whatever Menbead (talk) 17:35, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
