Crampton[edit]

There is an article on Crampton in the ODNB which may be useful for expanding this article, see http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/6597 Contemporary entries from the London Gazette may also be of use, see http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/SearchResults.aspx?GeoType=London&st=adv&sb=date&exact=Thomas%20Russell%20Crampton& David Underdown (talk) 18:06, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The ODNB site is a subscription site. The London Gazette site links to lots of PDFs, which I can't view from this computer. Mjroots (talk) 21:55, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming you have a local authority library card, you should find that you can access the ODNB using your card number, see your council's website for details. David Underdown (talk) 18:53, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life[edit]

"Born to John and Mary Crampton of Prospect Cottage, Dickens Walk, Broadstairs, on August 6 1816, Crampton was the son of a plumber and architect." It may be pedantic, but the place where he was born probably wasn't called Dickens Walk at the time, since, like most things Dickens in Broadstairs, the place must've been renamed at a later date to increase tourism. The source quoted doesn't actually give the street where he was born, so I'm assuming there's a blue plaque to denote it, and the writer took the address from that. I would like to add "in what is now" to the sentence, to remove any implication that Dickens predated Crampton. Rayhol (talk) 05:11, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the ref to the source and have amended the text. When Crampton was born, it is likely that his address would simply have been "Propsect Cottage, Broadstairs".
