The result of the move request was: moved. The initial proposal to move to "Tiffanie" has no consensus behind it. However, there is a consensus to move to "Tiffanie (cat)". (The proposer had updated the nomination to the alternative proposed title). (closed by non-admin page mover) – robertsky (talk) 13:13, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
– Tiffanie or Asian Longhair is the only official name for the breed (or subbreed under de Asian) used in the cat registries. Some have it as Tiffanie (Asian Semi-Longhair). Asian Semi-Longhair is a term used by some in the cat fancy, but is not the official breed name in the registries. It seems more logical to me to use the official name, Tiffanie, for this article. I believe that this would be a good change, it definitely makes more logical sense, Tiffanie is definitely the most commonly used by fanciers. It is what they're labeled as in the show hall in GCCF, even though registered as "Asian Longhair (Tiffanie)" Catfanaticmeow (talk) 12:27, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That could work. I will say, though, that the case for moving this is weak. Only a fraction of the registries use this name, and the others call it Asian Semi-longhair, Asian Longhair, or Burmilla Longhair. — SMcCandlish☏¢ 😼 08:13, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From a long-term significance perspective, a niche cat breed and a niche human name don't seem like a set where the average reader would ever strongly prefer a cat breed. If we look at usage, with e.g. monthly views of topics named Tiffanie, with Tiffany for comparison (same pronunciation, right?), I don't think it's likely that the average English reader associates the term Tiffanie so strongly with the cat breed that we should short circuit navigation like this. Indeed, if we look at how the addition of a separate given name article affects navigation, this looks like another bad case of WP:NAMELIST. Tiffanie (cat)orTiffanie (cat breed) or something to that effect seems like something that might work better for the proposer. (Oppose) --Joy (talk) 08:32, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is a contradiction between List of experimental cat breeds#Tiffanie and List of experimental cat breeds#Australian Tiffanie, and this article Tiffanie cat, in which the former says that Tiffanie (UK breed, a.k.a. Burmilla Longhair and other names) and Australian Tiffanie are different breeds (which makes sense or they would not be named that way), while the latter asserts they are the same breed. From what I can tell, they have similar foundation stock, but the Australian one has direct back-crossing to one of the progenitor breeds while the established (UK) Tiffanie does not. Bears some investigation, especially by someone caught up on Australian breeding and which organisations over there even still exist and what they are up to. — SMcCandlish☏¢ 😼 04:41, 13 November 2023 (UTC); revised: 16:58, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
