Length[edit]

How does something "grow up to 14–20 feet long"? Wouldn't that just be "grows up to 20 feet long"? 129.139.1.69 (talk) 14:16, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could use a sentence or two explaining how it came to be known as Tiger Shark. I certainly can't see any resemblance to a tiger, and would be interested to know. Rikeus (talk) 14:06, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is a very distinct striped pattern along the length of the shark on it's sides. In mature sharks, this often isn't as distinct, but it is very clear in juveniles. It's this pattern which gives them their name. douts (talk) 15:27, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Accidental "cite error" - please help?[edit]

Somewhere in the numerous edits I just made to the article I appear to have messed up two of the references. I mean well but am by no means an expert on using this website - could someone please look into it and fix this error? I tried to find it but I cannot figure out where I went wrong. PLEASE DO NOT SIMPLY REVERT MY EDITS; I spent quite a while improving the accuracy of this article and would hate to see all that work go to waste. Thanks.

Please be more specific - which references did you mess up and in what sense? Materialscientist (talk) 11:03, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Latin name[edit]

Shouldn't this article mention that the tiger shark's Latin name commemorates Georges Cuvier? Georges_Cuvier

Flizzjkzaop (talk) 21:38, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As soon as someone finds a reliable source, absolutely.--Mr Fink (talk) 21:54, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

'Killer whales' vs Orca[edit]

The colloquial name 'killer whale' is dated and carries negative, inaccurate connotations. I propose referring to these animals in another way.

Seconded, FWIW. I just tweaked some things and stuck to “killer whale” for consistency and to avoid opening exactly this can of worms, but am not comfortable with this. Jdickinson (talk) 05:37, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotect request on Thursday, November 17th, 2022[edit]

I need to add an {{About}} template on the {{other uses}} hatnote, please. It should look like this: "This article is about the cartilaginous fish. For other uses, see Tiger shark (disambiguation)." Also, I suggest that an administrator, particularly Oshawa, remove the protection template. 2607:FEA8:FD04:8132:D90A:8690:B70C:A720 (talk) 21:19, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Taxonomy — article text disagrees with infobox[edit]

The text makes several references to this being in family Galeocerdonidae (as the last extant member) but the infobox states they're in family Carcharhinidae. Any shark taxonomy nerds out there have a good source to fix this? Dustinlamont (talk) 04:48, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

lakes[edit]

In the Tiger shark range map, the species is erroneously shown to inhabit Lake Nicaragua and Lake Titicaca. There are Bull sharks in the former, not Tiger sharks. Would someone who is able please correct the map. Thank you. Jellysandwich0 (talk) 00:54, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
