"Stay Tooned"[edit]

I have an old VHS recording of a tv show (UK) where Tony Robinson narrates a show about drawing cartoons (mostly Warner Brothers cartoons) and shows some clips of classic cartoons after talking about them. I will watch the VHS and try and find more information about it (the name of the show is cut off), but does anyone know about his involvement in such a show? This was probably late 80s.

Now you come to mention it... ...I had forgotten all about this.
Programme in question was Stay Tooned, and was extremely good. Found out the title (which I had forgotten) courtesy of IMDB (see Stay Tooned). Enjoy your video! -- EdJogg 16:40, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Airline"[edit]

someone should mention he narrated the TV show airline

Politics[edit]

Tony's activity in politics well precedes the dates given. Both he and his then partner Mary were active in Bristol Labour politics, and Tony had stood as a council candidate in the mid 80s for the Clifton ward where he then lived. Bob aka Linuxlad 11:41, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

terry prachet[edit]

he also did making money —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.220.102.253 (talk) 22:58, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

POV sentence removed[edit]

I have removed the following text which was added today (concerning Robinson's involvement with Time Team):

...where his derogatory views on metal detecting have made him highly disliked by detectorists.

Quite apart from the fact that it breaks the flow of an otherwise adequate section, it is not cited, and smacks distinctly of 'POV' to me.

EdJogg (talk) 00:29, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doctorate[edit]

Tony Robinson is a Doctor, it has been earned through his own work in historical study. Though through media, he has achieved the same qualification for his work as any other postgraduate student and therefore has the right to be called Dr Tony Robinson —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.67.83.130 (talkcontribs) 22:16 13 Dec 2008

He may well have the right, but if he doesn't use it himself, the article should not use it either. Also, Wikipedia article titles would not use it (as per WP:MOS article naming policy). EdJogg (talk) 13:41, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Aren't his various doctorates honorary, rather than for "his own work in historical study"? People with such degrees tend not to use the title. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.171.129.74 (talk) 01:45, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Play Away?[edit]

No mention of his participation and early fame in "Play Away"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play_Away —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.171.129.74 (talk) 01:39, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

children[edit]

i've been trying to add his 2 children to the info box, but it doesn't display on the page. can anyone help? Marthiemoo (talk) 13:39, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The answer is (in one sense) fairly simple. If you look at {{Infobox Actor}} you will see that the 'Children' field is not encoded. You would need to canvass opinion of whoever looks after the template with regard to adding such a field.

Awards[edit]

Most sexy man 2003 NME?

according to BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/2759381.stm the award went to Chris martin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.38.69.225 (talk) 12:23, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it's rubbish! (now deleted) BBC site is usually regarded as reliable, but eventually found independent (sorry!) confirmation here:
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/pop-awards-honour-the-clash-coldplay-and-oasis-597557.html
and here:
http://www.tourdates.co.uk/news/1961-NME-Awards-The-Winners
Probably added innocently (?) by someone reading the NME awards page which was frequently vandalised, in this case in November 2007. (Text added here by anon editor, 26 Jan 09).
Thanks for the pointer + NME page also updated -- EdJogg (talk) 23:30, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Early life[edit]

"At school, Robinson passed four O Levels (English Language, English Literature, History and Geography) and went on to study for A Levels, but decided to study at a drama school instead."

The second part of the sentence.

1. Went on to study for A Level examinations or study A Levels? 2. The part, "went on to study at drama school instead", makes no sense. However, I don't know enough about whether he started A Levels and dropped out and changed to Drama School or whether he completed th=em and changed. I suspect the former. However, the only reference I could find (uncredited in Wikipedia) is http://www.unofficialtonyrobinsonwebsite.co.uk/pages/biography.html  :

"Tony passed 4 'O’ levels ( History, Geography and both English Language and English Literature) and went on to do ‘A’ levels, however he decided that wasn’t for him and chose to go to drama school. He was too young to go to RADA but got a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama."

So, I'm changing the sentence to,"At school, Robinson passed four O Levels (English Language, English Literature, History and Geography) and went on to study for A Levels. However, he did not complete his A Levels and decided to study at a drama school instead."

I think it flows better. --Candy (talk) 19:10, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hypocrite[edit]

Despite writing the sleeve notes for the Genesis album "lamb lies down on broadway", he says he doesn't even like the album.

81.158.193.167 (talk) 05:01, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Knighthood[edit]

The added lines about his recent knighthood seem to be more a personal gripe by the editor than an objective commentary. Joss (talk) 11:00, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Some nice person beat me to the edit out the offending lines, but I have added a quote from Robinson reacting to his award. Joss (talk) 11:19, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Robinson's name should be included in the category "Actors awarded British knighthoods". Unfortunately I'm unable to do this myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.255.235.213 (talk) 17:36, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't he knighted in 2004 by the legitimate king of england in Australia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.174.39.102 (talk) 22:42, 7 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

1.129.104.209 (talk) The legitimate Queen of Australia was made 'Queen of Australia' by legislation when Prime Minister Gough Whitlam had a bill passed in Australia's Parliament in 1973 to recognise her as such.

I doubt Sir Tony is an Australian citizen and therefore it is more likely he was knighted by the Queen in Britain.1.129.104.209 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:58, 16 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Personalia[edit]

Is Mr Robinson really just 3ft4 tall? And does he really have 42 children? It also seems to state he ate his ex wife. There might be some vandalism involved here, or just someone with a (corny) sense of humour. But I do think it should be fixed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Korporaal1 (talkcontribs) 20:53, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen him in real life, and can confirm he actually is this tall. Or he may have just been further away than I thought. WT 7/11/14. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.83.127.252 (talk) 12:36, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

History of Britain[edit]

Tony is a remarkable historian who also host(ed) “The History of Britain”, documenting the history of average citizens throughout different periods of English and British history. I didn’t see it listed on this Wiki page.
