How tourism benefits Botswana by Baboloki Semele[edit]

Botswana depends mostly on beef and beef products as well as diamond as the two main exports and two revenue boosters, currently the diamond international market has declined by 50% thus affecting diamond exportation, as if it is not enough, foot and mouth disease also continues to ravage the country, crippling the economy already weakened by the financial crisis. The only hope lies therefore with tourism. Botswana’s principal tourist attractions are its game reserves, with hunting and photographic safaris available. Other attractions include the Okavango Delta region, which during the rainy season is a maze of waterways, islands, and lakes. The tourism industry also helped to diversify Botswana's economy from traditional sources such as diamonds and beef and created 23,000 jobs in 2005. Therefore it is evident that in this current situation, tourism can take Botswana from the muddy clay. Native Batswana are doing anything possible to add more beauty to their country. There is Lentswe la Oodi weavers at Oodi Vilage, Oodi is situated at the eastern side of the capital city Gaborone. The duty of the firm is to produce outfits, blankets as well as pottery. This are all done by loocal Batswana using the traditional ingredients so to mention. There is also a village called Mogonye, In Botswana. There are many fountains there, called kgopu in setsana. The other fountain has an evergreen and a rainy tree, the tree produces water from january to December and this has so far attracted so amny tourists. There is also a well at mogonye, which the vilagers terms it a Messiah, in times of taps dry, they use it as an alternative, the well also attracts tourists from as far as Germany. Mogonye Village is situated at the Southern side of Gaborone, between Manyana, moshupa and Ramotswa. The vilage is serene and small. Manyana is another village rich in the heritage holdings of Botswana. There lies a place called legaga la ga Mma Sechele(the cave of Mrs Sechele)n it is beleived tat during the wars back in the days the village queen, mrs Secehele herself hid herself in the cave and managed to live. The place hgas received tourists from as far as europe, England, Germany. Adding more beauty to the cave is opictures beleived to have been drawn by Bush men back in the days. Manyana also has got a place where it it beleived that Livingstone camped and taught villagers from there. The place is protected and really attracting. There is also in the history of Botswana, the Dimawe battle, that is a battle which took place back in the days, the site is between Manyana and Moshupa, and it also attracts a lot of tourists, tthe native Batswana use it for their wedding photos as the place is over the moon with beauty. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.33.11.13 (talk) 13:23, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
