Untitled[edit]

This is a really poor article. I suggest it needs clean up. And all the headlines should have text under it, or be removed. I'm also suggesting we put most of the text of the mongol invasions on it's own pages. 85.164.58.244 03:51, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I feel the same way, this page needs to be expand by adding details from Vietnamese article. 75.16.61.227 (talk) 05:21, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Date formatting[edit]

Shouldn't there be a consistent date format per WP:DATE#Dates? I see "February 28 (Luar calendar) 1400", "March 15 of the lunar calendar, 1398", and "28th day of the second lunar month (March 23) 1400". Please pick one or the other. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (talk) 07:41, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clan origin in Fujian[edit]

The article currently states that the Tranh clan is from Fujian. According to the source presented (Taylor 2013 p.120), one grandfather of the grandfather of the first emperor was from Fujian - so claiming that the whole family is from Fujian looks like a slight overstatement. Yaan (talk) 20:11, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

With the somewhat randomly selected additional sources, we now know that the paternal grandfather of the paternal grandfather of the first emperor was from Fujian, and that he laid the foundation for his descendant's rise to power - but I still think that having Fujian as the subject of the very first sentence after the lede is overdoing it a bit. Also how is 1282 relevant to this particular section? Yaan (talk) 20:28, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting pinyin transliteration. It's completely understandable to include the Chinese words (, or more precisely, Sino-Vietnamese - Hán Việt ) for the name of the dynasty because the Vietnamese use Chinese character throughout the monarchies.Hơwever, the pinyin is redundant, as the Vietnamese never pronounced their Chinese letters that way. This is of common knowledge to anyone who is slightly familiar with Vietnamese history or language. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HoangKhoi (talkcontribs) 07:21, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake[edit]

In 1257, the first Mongol invasion of Đại Việt was launched with the purpose of opening a southern front against the Song dynasty, whom they were fighting for more than two decades. […] Trần Dụ Tông opposed the encroachment of a foreign army across his territory to attack their ally, and so dispatched soldiers on elephants to deter the Mongol troops. […] Trần Dụ Tông submitted to the Mongols after the loss of a prince and the capital.

@MarkH21: Hi, I found some errors in this section and after a little research I found out that you are the one who added this information. The problem with this is that Trần Dụ Tông wasn't even born at that time. His reign stretched from 1341 to 1369, about 100 years after the First Mongol Invasion of Vietnam. Even his great-grandfather, Emperor Trần Nhân Tông, was not born until a year later (1258). I'm therefore suspicious of the authenticity of the information you obtain from that source. I haven't look into it yet, but I'm sure it's incorrect. I think you should correct these mistakes. --A (talk) 21:29, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@A: You’re totally right. I’ll take a look at the original source again, I must have copied the wrong name! — MarkH21talk 21:34, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@A: Fixed! It was Trần Thái Tông. I’m not sure how that even happened, since I used the correct name at the main article Mongol invasions of Vietnam. In any case, thanks for pointing out that embarrassing mistake! — MarkH21talk 21:40, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MarkH21: Everyone makes mistakes, so there is no need to thank. Btw, thank you for writing this and several other Vietnam-related articles, and most importantly, reverted those vandalism made by IPs. I'm very familiar with these sockpuppets, IPs (and of course who own them) who like to invent new "facts" for political reasons. I reverted many identical edits made by that user in vi.wiki and have been involved in discussion with him before but but unfortunately, he could not provide a single source for his "facts".--A (talk) 22:19, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tran Quoc Tuan[edit]

Someone wrote『Some of the mixed-blooded descendants and certain members of the clan could still speak Chinese, as when a Yuan dynasty envoy met with the Chinese-speaking Tran Prince Trần Quốc Tuấn in 1282.』But none of the source provided mentioned this. They only mentioned Fujian root of Tran Canh. Nor this is mentioned anywhere in Vietnamese history. Only Tran Nhat Duat speaks CHinese to the Song but because he was a polyglot. Gallery location[edit]

Does anyone mind if I move the gallery to the below part of the article? This is for consistency with similar pages. Danial Bass (talk) 16:31, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
