Flooding Incident

[edit]

The article includes this story: "Another report of this event is that Barbel lost control due to heavy seas and insufficient positive buoyancy resulting in unexpectedly submerging with the control room hatch open. What actually happened was, in calm weather, is that the CO and other leadership failed to complete a diesel exhaust gas blow (called a low pressure blow by today's submarines) which pushed diesel exhaust into the main ballast tanks to remove residual water. The failure to conduct the exhaust gas blow in conjunction with a relatively high speed on the surface caused Barbel to gradually push itself lower and eventually the bow angle caught the water and the boat drove itself to 110 feet which caused the three Sailors on the bridge to let go; the OOD and lookout were lost at sea and one other recovered. The lost OOD was Lt Walter Gray Womble III and the lost lookout was Fireman James Lear. This is from someone who was on the Barbel when the event occurred.[2]"

Unfortunately this is unsourced. While it may possibly be accurate, it doesn't meet Wikipedia's standards unless there is a verifiable source.2600:1000:B039:C5EF:F81E:10C5:C040:2382 (talk) 18:12, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Brady Bunch

[edit]

Barbel appeared in the first episode of season 4 of The Brady Bunch in September 1972 during the tour of Pearl Harbor. The number 580 is clearly visible on the sail. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.215.12.129 (talk) 04:18, 21 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
