The article currently says she has a complement of 539 men. I served in USS Virginia (lead ship of the class) and we were crowded when we had 350 onboard. Does anyone know a more accurate numbder than 539? Tom Hubbard (talk) 15:24, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Information?

[edit]

I Discovered this written on the talk page for the photo USS Texas (CGN-39). I have no way to confirm it, but maybe someone else can? TomStar81 23:39, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,my name is Dale Tillman and I am writing about the USS TEXAS CGN-39. I was stationed on the TEXAS from Jan. to July 1980. I was only there for the last 7 months of my enlistment. During that time we spent 3 months off the coast of Iraq. This was the time when Iraq was holding 100 American hostages. The Texas was part a nuclear task force sent to rescue, try to rescue, the hostages. I'm sorry to say the mission failed and we were sent back to the states. The reason I'm writing this is because I was reading about the Texas, and nothing was mentioned about this mission!

They must be talking about Iran not Iraq. Iran hostage crisis and Operation Eagle Claw. --Dual Freq (talk) 14:36, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

World cruise circa 1983 notes

[edit]

I served aboard USS Texas CGN-39 in Deck Division from summer of 82 to the summer of 83... the ship was still in the Yards in Portsmouth, Va in drydock just finishing refit in june of 1982 when I got there we then moved to Norfolk NOB a few weeks later then we were regrouped and assigned to the new carrier Carl Vinson's battlegroup as escort for her maiden cruise around the world early March 1983... Monaco, Casablanca, our golden Shellback initiation at 0 degrees/ 0 degrees, Abidjan, Diego Garcia which is where I got off the ship... point is in article the new Zealand protest happened after I left the ship not before we left port so your article has the timeline skewed as Wellington hosted the battlegroup during the cruise...
