The first two paragraphs are, for the most part, opinion statements, not factual statements and, therefore, do not fit with Wikipedia standards.
Citations are needed for all of the statistics named in this article.
The page would benefit from more information, such as a list of the people who have headed the organization, and a list of now prominent people who were once UN Volunteers. In short, the page should look more like the PeaceCorps entry.
