Doesn't Project Habakkuk, the British plan to build a huge iceberg-like floating aircraft platform to base in the Mid-Atlantic to fight U-boats during WWII, count as a variation of a VLFS? Or does the fact that it's made from ice mean it can't count as a "structure". It's made by man, out of a mixture of ice and wood pulp called Pykrete, so it's not naturally occurring. Air-cushion supported Mega-Floaters are mega floaters that are supported by an air cushion. They were invented by Jan Van Kessel of TU Delft.
It would be better to just say: Air-cushion supported Mega-Floaters were invented by Jan Van Kessel of TU Delft.
The first sentence is 100% redundant and doesn't provide meaningful information. :The main problem with this entire thing is that Jan Van Kessel didn't invent air-cushion support, and doesn't claim to have done so. In his paper, he lists many different projects that have used the approach in the past. He just designed a specific implementation of the concept, the shoebox implementation. However, his shoebox implementation is very similar to the air cushion ship designs and patents by Sir John Isaac Thornycroft dating from the 1870's.
