What is Virgin America, a company or an airline brand?

[edit]

airline brand or the company/division.

Virgin America Inc. was an American airline founded in 2004 and began operations in 2007.... Virgin America is scheduled to cease all operations on April 25, 2018, when all of the airline’s flights will become Alaska Airlines flights.

Virgin was...then Virgin is???

I believe it should be the company or division so that the "was" is appropriate.Vanguard10 (talk) 00:17, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Virgin America is an airline in transition. First, it was a stand-alone airline company for about a decade. Then a couple of years ago it was purchased by the Alaska Air Group who has operated it separately from its other airline, Alaska Airlines, but operated in a complementary way. In that since it could be seen as simply a “brand.” In April, the Alaska Air Group will fully merge Virgin America into Alaska Airlines. At that point, it will become a former airline, forcing a major re-write of this article. --RickyCourtney (talk) 00:55, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure it will need a re-write as it will just become a former airline article that reflects the history up to the merger. Anything after that relates to Alaska Airlines which is a different article. MilborneOne (talk) 01:58, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you. ‑ ‑ Gareth Griffith‑Jones The Welsh Buzzard ‑ ‑ 10:01, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

2nd WiFi Milestone

[edit]

First, I am just pointing out a missed fact. I don't have the cycles to learn all the proper etiquette and formatting for directly adding to the article:

Ten A319's were equipped with Ka satellite internet from Viasat in 2015. This was so fast passengers could stream Netflix at 35k ft. Pretty noteworthy. Please consider adding a paragraph on this important accomplishment.

  • Regarding ownership

    [edit]

There seems to be a misunderstanding concerning the Virgin Group's relationship with Virgin America, as they were only ever a minor shareholder that have the same namesake - they never owned the airline. The Alaska Air Group was the only company that ever owned Virgin America, from 2016 until the airline's absorbtion in 2018. BOTTO (TC) 16:00, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
