I've just put in a stub of a section for Wakes Week in Derbyshire - it is really significant in certain areas, in fact the biggest event of the year. I've pinged a few folks who are familiar with it in the hope they'll fill in some detail. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danja (talkcontribs) 00:18, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's interesting but it needs some references as, at the moment, it's original research and open to deletion. Perhaps there will be something written about it in local newspapers or parish magazines? Richerman (talk) 05:59, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well dressing[edit]

There is a perfectly good article on Well dressing and I don't think it has anything to do with Wakes weeks as far as I can see. I think the info should be removed. J3Mrs (talk) 08:49, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Derbyshire[edit]

Wakes could describe two things, an annual holiday and a fair or feast often celebrated around the saint's day of the local church. In Tyldesley the "wakes" came to Tyldesley in April and September, it was the travelling fair that grew out of earlier feast days. The wakes holiday was the annual holiday when the pits, mills and just about everything else closed down. I have removed the Derbyshire paragraph as I am sure it refers to the fair or feast.
