It is possible that this template has been made obsolete in some instances by Module:PopulationFromWikidata/doc. Further investigation is needed before a blanket recommendation for that module instead of this template. If the article only includes population data, it might be better to use only the module, and not this template. If the article includes population data and other demographic information, the module and the template should both be used. The only minor issue that remains is that this causes duplicate citations ([1] and [2] instead of the preferred 1 "a" and "b").
This template allows for the inclusion of direct web links to official 2021 census data into Australian geographical articles. Due to periodic changes/redesigns on the ABS website, these links may change: the advantage of using the template is therefore that all articles using this template will migrate with it.
