This template creates an external link for a specific Solar System feature (such as a lunar or Martian crater), which was officially named by the Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (also see planetary nomenclature ). The template uses a unique numeric Feature ID (first parameter) as identifier, so that the external link will point to the corresponding single-feature page at Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature – International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN).
The {{WGPSN}} template should be used in a reference column of listed features in a wikitable or in an external link section, and not as an inline citation (for inline citations, use the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature template: {{GPN}}). There are more than 15,000 named planetary features which can be referred to by this template using the appropriate ID.
The lunar crater Tycho (featureID: 6163) can be referenced with the {{WGPSN}}-template as follows:
