This is a documentation subpage for Template:WikiProject Christianity. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

This template is used on approximately 81,000 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandboxor/testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them.

The {{WikiProject Christianity}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

• attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • This parameter populates Category:Christianity articles needing attention.
• class – valid values are listed in the custom class mask. See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
• importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
• listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Feodosiy Petsyna, use |listas=Petsyna, Feodosiy so that the talk page will show up in the P's and not the F's of the various assessment and administrative categories; similarly, for topics with titles beginning with an article such as "the" or "a" - e.g. for The Faith of Our Fathers, use |listas=Faith of Our Fathers, The so that the talk page will show up in the F's). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter.   If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
• needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
  • This parameter populates Category:Christianity articles without infoboxes.
• auto – This parameter is for the use of bots and indicates that the article has been automatically rated:
  • |auto=length – based on the length of the article
  • |auto=inherit – because one or more other projects use this class
  • |auto=yes (or|auto=stub), in conjunction with |class=stub – as Stub-Class because it uses a stub template
    • Use of the above values (or value combinations) with this parameter populates [[:Category:|Category:]].
• category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.

• bible – set |bible=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Bible.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Bible articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Bible articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • bible-importance (only used if |bible=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Bible
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Bible articles by importance.
• history – set |history=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Christian history.
  • This parameter populates Category:Christian History articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Christian History articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • history-importance (only used if |history=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Christian history
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Christian History articles by importance.
• holidays – set |holidays=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Holidays.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Holidays articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Holidays articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • holidays-importance (only used if |holidays=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Holidays
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Holidays articles by importance.
• saints – set |saints=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Saints.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Saints articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Saints articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • saints-importance (only used if |saints=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Saints
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Saints articles by importance.
• religious-texts – set |religious-texts=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Religious texts.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Religious texts articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Religious texts articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • religious-texts-importance (only used if |religious-texts=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Religious texts
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Religious texts articles by importance.
• christian-music – set |christian-music=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Christian music.
  • This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Christian music articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • christian-music-importance (only used if |christian-music=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Christian music

• christian-metal – set |christian-metal=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Christian Metal.

• The parameter |baptist-importance= is recognised as an alias for |baptist-work-group-importance=. If both |baptist-work-group-importance= and |baptist-importance= are present, |baptist-importance= is ignored.
