Webmaster Note[edit]

Howdy, I just wanted to note that I am the webmaster of the website associated with this template. I would be happy to answer any questions related to the site.--Dcheney (talk) 19:50, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tag for CH references[edit]

Greetings, References using this CH template can be tagged with {{Self-published source}}. Regards, JoeHebda • (talk) 13:38, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've suggested this before, but wouldn't it make more sense to make that part of the template itself? --Dcheney (talk) 09:07, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

access-date doesn't work as documented; & (data) date is better than access-date[edit]

Usage of this template is documented as {{Catholic-hierarchy | TYPE | URL section | ALT NAME |accessdate= 29 March 2022 | archiveurl= | archivedate= }}

As of 9 April 2022 it doesn't work that way. In brief, the access date doesn't work as documented; though both archive-url= and archive-date= do indeed work as expected, with or without hyphen.

The (deprecated) accessdate= and (correct) access-date=are ignored. A bare date as 4th parameter is recognised and displayed as "Retrieved" date. A fifth bare parameter is ignored; date=

With parameter|accessdate=9 April 2022[1] (<ref>{{Catholic-hierarchy|bishop|braggi|Lorenzo Cardinal Raggi|accessdate=9 April 2022}}</ref>) the date is ignored at present.

With parameter|9 April 2022[2] (<ref>{{Catholic-hierarchy|bishop|braggi|Lorenzo Cardinal Raggi|9 April 2022}}</ref>) the "Retrieved" date is displayed.

The bare date must continue to be recognised to support existing use, but access-date= needs to be added.

  1. ^ "Lorenzo Cardinal Raggi". Catholic-Hierarchy.org. David M. Cheney.
  • ^ "Lorenzo Cardinal Raggi". Catholic-Hierarchy.org. David M. Cheney. Retrieved 9 April 2022.
  • Another point

    The Catholic-hierarchy Web pages have the page date at the bottom ("Copyright David M. Cheney ... Data: 18 Nov 2020). This date seems highly relevant; the actual date accessed is totally unimportant. The data date, not the date retrieved (or in addition to the date retrieved) should be used, with parameter date=. For the example used here:
    "Lorenzo Cardinal Raggi". Catholic-Hierarchy.org. David M. Cheney. 18 November 2020.

    Best wishes, Pol098 (talk) 15:14, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    I can confirm that date is significant. The info after "Code" is the particular script that created the page, it's version, and revision date. While useful to me (the code writer), no one else will care. The date after "Data" is the actual date that page was last updated. Note that if it is substantially out of date, you may want to verify that the page name has not changed (unusual, but it does happen). Dcheney (talk) 00:05, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
