Leather[edit]

Fact: leather does not equal cattle hide. While the vast majority of modern leather is made from cattle as cattle hides are plentiful because of beef production, it can be made from dozens of different animals, and equating the two as this template currently does is a complete falsehood. Persisting in restoring an WP:EASTEREGG link that shows a blatant error is just poor. oknazevad (talk) 18:00, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please focus on what changes could be made to template.
Please note this is a nav-box, hence its purpose to provide links to related articles. Since it is not an info-box its purpose is not to provide information directly.
Also note that the article on leather claims that is "mostly [made from] cattle hide". I think it would be impractical to label to link to leather as "mostly cattle" and detrimental to remove the link from the template entirely. tahc chat 20:00, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And it's misleading and therefore detrimental to navigation to put an WP:EASTEREGG link in the first place. That's why the guidelines say to avoid them in the first place. I'm saying plainly that the link to leather should say "leather" without any animal. I know what the article says about cattle hides; I just performed a major overhaul of that article, which I why I noticed this template's poor linking practice in the first place. That also means I know there's an entire section on leather sourced from other animals.
To that end, the other piped links should have their pipes removed as well. Without looking at the code, which link goes to the actual animal, goatorgoat? If one cannot tell, then there's no aid to navigation in the first place. The template is about materials used in clothing. The links should not just point to the materials, they should read as them as well. oknazevad (talk) 18:10, 9 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Lableing each with "skin" or "leather" is poor style. That they are skin/leather is already implied by the subheading, etc. Again, please gain WP:CON here before making changes per WP:BRD and all other Wikipedia policies. tahc chat 20:24, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
