Although the list is already quite extensive there a couple of stations I was wondering if anybody could give a hand with:
First is the apparent Newburn Power Station. [1] says that a station was built here in 1908. I had it on this list for some time but with no other info I decided to remove it. Does anybody have any information on a station here that would make it worth beginning an article on it. I am aware Newburn Steelworks is on the list but thats because it had a Parsons turbine installed to utilise waste steam. I'll get an article started on that soonish.
Chopwell and South Shore Road power stations. There are a couple of sources of information on these stations, but not enough to get an article going. Anybody able to help out?
A current edit war means wind turbines within this template need to be discussed. Should all turbines and farms (within certain notability) be listed, or should some not? Fintan264 (talk) 12:38, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wind farms are a form of large-scale generation and therefore have a place on this template, however I'd argue that we'd have to look at including only farms above a certain minimum capacity. You could possible also consider only farms that connect directly onto the network rather than primarily supplying private industry? Nick Ottery (talk) 14:20, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with setting a certain minimum capacity, but this would be made difficult by the low capacities of early wind turbines. I disagree somewhat with removing farms which supply private industry, as the region's only two coal fired power stations (Lynemouth and Wilton) primarily supply private industries. I am also in favour of listing only power stations that connect to the National Grid, as both Lynemouth and Wilton do. If the Nissan tubrines supplied just to "local industry" I would have no problem including them, but they don't even supply 10% of electricty for the Nissan plant. I also think setting a minimum capacity would be rather artificial, as you say it would exclude early wind turbines. How about a crtiera of "any industrial facility constructed for the purposes of generating electricty for supply to the grid" --Pontificalibus (talk) 19:56, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to agree to those criteria. If the Nissan Plant turbines don't supply the grid then remove them. The wind farm section needs a lot of tidying. I have no idea how (un)complete it is, so I'm happy to hear you're going to tidy it.Fintan264 (talk) 20:33, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There appear to be some differences between what the BWEA includes as sites and those in the template. I'll try and flesh out the details for the above to establish which should be in the template and which shouldn't. Would it be sensible to start an article (something like Wind Power in North East England?) to capture details of these smaller farms or will it fail notability? I also see there is a cumbersome table at List of onshore wind farms in the United Kingdom - perhaps it would be better to split this up by regions to make for easier navigation? As to Nissa Motors, the BWEA list includes all "wind farms", of which it clearly is one, however this template lists "power stations" of which it is not. It might be a notable wind farm, but it does not contribute to electricity generation in North East England any more than numerous other generators that don't feed to the grid.--Pontificalibus (talk) 13:06, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree we go with the criteria set out above - i.e. grid connection is important. I thought I would help populate the Wind Farm section of the template by listing (hopefully) all the wind farms in the region. From this the idea would be that we establish grid connection etc and then move to the template as appropriate. Also, lots of the links aren't to the wind farm, but the village/moor they are named after so a lot will need looking at in terms of including in a suitable article and linking appropriately.
