Why is the name Gomantak Maratha used for an artistic class that has nothing to do with "Maratha" profession?

[edit]

I am curious as to why does this community call itself "Maratha" while most of their traditional culture, practices, n profession have no resemblance to the mainstream Marathas. As far I am aware the community goes by the name of Devalis, or Bandis in official records and in local etymology. Please clarify this creates a lot of confusion as there are actual Marathas(Kshatriyas) inhabiting Goa & Konkan along side this and other communities in Goa and are popular accepted Marathas. Hence, you using the name Gomatak Maratha does injustice to this community of warriors who ruled and spilled their blood for the Goan(Gomantak) soil. So, I request you to please procure some other respectable name for your community in order to prevent the confusion. I find this community owing to its artistic and temple traditions such accept some Brahminic name for their caste. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.198.243.67 (talk) 21:04, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
