Enzymes[edit]

Might it be a good idea to add the enzymes involved between each reactant and product? Richard001 00:51, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

These enzymes are included in the detailed description of each step in Glycolysis. However, I added the enzymes into the current template... One drawback is that it increases the width of the template significantly, which may mean that it would be better to leave the enzymes out. XarBiogeek 17:54, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2NAD+ -> 2NADH + 2H+ and 2ADP -> 2ATP intermediate processes[edit]

Something is wrong with the formatting of an image. By using File:Biochem reaction arrow reversible YYYY horiz med.png, it makes the input display two intermediate reactions that cancel out each other (see [corrected] title above), and that would make the net change of molecules appear to be zero, i.e. no NADH, H+ or ATP is produced in two respective reactions concerned. Can someone else fix this? (My biology exam is in 30 minutes, so I can't trouble myself looking for the correct image and format at this time, sorry) Vic226 16:47, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In what way should it be fixed? The arrows made larger? David D. (Talk) 18:25, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know why you would think that as the size of arrows is just simply unrelated, but perhaps I did not make myself clear in a hurry. For the overall glycolysis cycle, a net total of two NADH + H+ and two ATP should be produced. I don't know about whether the pathways which involve the two sets of molecules above are reversible, but by using the image/template above, it's instead showing that 1) both NADH + H+ and NAD+ are being produced at the same rate; 2) both ATP and ADP are being produced at the same rate. Which would imply that there would be no net product for the two metabolic pathways concerned. I'm thinking of using the template with reaction arrow foward YYNN horiz med while having "2 ATP" and "2 NADH + H+" (2 to indicate that there are two being produced) would better clarify the pathways, although I'll have to look into the template format to see how it works. Vic226 19:00, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I just saw the "2" next to the template as well as another pathway involving 2 ADP converting into ATP. I think I'll just stick with whatever the last ADP-ATP pathway has. Vic226 19:07, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is a reversible reaction. The overall direction depends on the concentration of the subtrates/products with respect to the equilibrium of the reaction. As the environment in a cell changes then the overall reaction can go either way. David D. (Talk) 19:21, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template size[edit]

This template is wide enough that it runs of my screen due to the images. I assume that this happens to other users too with similar or smaller screen sizes than mine. Might it be considered to reorganize this template with a third column to avoid run off? On behalf of all those with smaller screens and those who dislike scrolling sideways, αЯβιτЯαЯιŁΨθ (talk) 01:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, David D. has trimmed the template. Thanks David! It's now much more functional. αЯβιτЯαЯιŁΨθ (talk) 11:44, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've increased the size of the content for readability. It still fits on screens of width around 780px which should be more than adequate.User:GKFXtalk 13:06, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Naming[edit]

This template shows pyruvic acid, but says pyruvate Vokesk (talk) 18:48, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

All the other images and all the names correspond to the anionic forms of the acids which occur at physiological pH. For consistency, pyruvic acid should be similarly shown as pyruvate. I have updated the template accordingly. -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:01, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
