What is the focus of this template?[edit]

Not sure what the purpose of listing various countries and regions occupied by Arctic Indigenous peoples are. If this is supposed to be an Inuit template, then listed the Inuit ethnic groups and languages would make sense. But then the Indigenous peoples of Siberia would have to go, since they are not Inuit. If it's supposed to be about Circumpolar peoples, they could stay. Either way this template needs an overhaul. -Uyvsdi (talk) 01:11, 5 February 2014 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

Yup'ik Inclusion[edit]

Including Unangan/s, Yupighyt, Sugpiat and Yupiit / Yupiat / Cupiit / Tarupiat seems a bit odd as Yup'ik and similar Inuit-adjacent peoples do not consider themselves to be Inuit. There does not seem to be an inclusive term for all these nations, as "Eskimo" is an eastern Cree term, and "Yup'ik & Inuit" would risk excluding all those in what is now western Alaska and eastern Russia who do not use "Yup'ik" as an autonym.

In my opinion, I think we should not list Alaskan Nunavut/Nunarpet because those are not Inuit homelands. Alternatively, if we find a way to be inclusive of Yup'ik–Unangax̂–Inuk differences, then we should list all the homelands, including Unangam/s Tanangin and those in Chukotka.
