Order of programs[edit]

Wouldn't it be more useful for the order of the programs be chronological rather than alphabetic?S-1-5-7 (talk) 05:10, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Constellation program[edit]

@Soumya-8974: The Constellation program had two flights, which means it was a flown program. Seems odd that we should exclude it from the list. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 12:50, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that the cancelled space programs should not include in the list. So I removed Constellation program. I shall bring that back. —Yours sincerely, Soumyabrata (contributionssubpages) 15:03, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of Space Command[edit]

@PhilipTerryGraham: I don't entirely disagree with your rational with removing military space programs in how the template is currently organized, but I would like to make the argument for adding Space Command. The way military space is structured the Space Force organizes, trains, and equips forces, while actual operations are conducted under the authority of U.S. Space Command. For example the Space Force would organize, train, and equip the 2nd Space Operations Squadron (GPS), but actual operations would be conducted under Space Command. They are two sides of the same coin, in a sense. Garuda28 (talk) 00:21, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Garuda28: Fair enough, I'll add it back. – PhilipTerryGraham (talk · articles · reviews) 00:22, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Should the US Space Force really be on here?[edit]

It's indisputable that the US Space Force operates in space, but I think it's relevant to ask whether it qualifies as a space program, as the US Space Force has no mandate of exploration or scientific discovery. It is entirely intended as a military force. – Jadebenn (talk · contribs · subpages) 22:20, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The us has two different space programs – a civil space program, led by NASA, and a military space program (arguably significantly larger), led by the USSF. They are two sides of the same coin. The space program never has just been about science or exploration exclusively.Garuda28 (talk) 00:14, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This template has the Mercury Program as part of the US Space Force [1]. This is a major error as the USSF was only founded on 2019. This should be removed from the template. Dinkytown talk 06:40, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Section Headers[edit]

"National security space" -> "Military space program" and "Civil space" -> "Civil space program"? The current headers don't seem correct. SuperStormer (talk) 02:36, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

National security space, civil space, and commercial space are the three space sectors. Space foundation has a good primer on them (https://www.spacefoundation.org/space_brief/space-sectors/). Garuda28 (talk) 06:08, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Update might be needed[edit]

The US space industry has changed quite a bit since this template was last updated. Could someone more versed in editing templates than I am add companies like Stoke and such to the template? Thefficacy (talk) 15:41, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
