Why are cities like Bakersfield and San Bernardino on the list of major cities? This is a template for the entire Western U.S., not their particular regions. Cities like those two are not notable when looking at the entire half of the country. They are certainly not on par with cities like Los Angeles and Las Vegas. San Bernardino, for example is the center city (w/Riverside, like Minneapolis-St Paul) of the 14 largest metro in the US and 25th in the Americas. I merged Global cities w/major cities, as it matches Midwestern US & Southern US templates. House1090 (talk) 21:36, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well if they are population centers why should they? Billings is a major center as well, as for Bakersfield I dont know. I think we should have the top 10 metro anchor cities here, some revolve around dual cities, like the 14th largest metro. House1090 (talk) 21:44, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
They are of there own metros. Sa Bernardino for example is larger than Salt Lake City and is the anchor of an even larger metro. If a city is an anchor of the top 15 metros in the Western US it should be in the template. House1090 (talk) 21:51, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Anyways I think the template is too long. I think as a navigational template for a large region we should remove the cities and just have the metropolitan areas. I agree that major cities should only be included, i.e. Phoenix, Los Angeles and Seattle. Cities like San Bernardino aren't important enough to be on the template since they are satellite cities of places like Los Angeles. I disagree with merging Global Cities, after all they are the most important. The list should be at least made up of Global Cities. I am going to clean the list a bit and hopefully we will all agree. What criteria are we using to define "major city"? Right now I don't see the utility of this template, and am seeing a lot of the disadvantages listed at Wikipedia:Categories, lists, and navigation templates#Navigation templates. I'm seeing issues about the POV of what links to include, usefulness in some of the articles, and not giving the reader enough clues. In terms of advantages, I'm not seeing a consistent look and navigation for related articles, especially as this is only used on three articles at the moment, and I think adding it to a lot of these pages with already cluttered nav template sections like San Diego and LA would not make it any easier to get around these articles. -Optigan13 (talk) 01:06, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
