You say: why? (after all this is done automatically.) I say: because when we design a portal in a temporary user sandbox for instance, there is no way to test for the final behaviour of this template when it will be moved to its permanent location. Is there a way to get the Wikinews link here to perform a search on Wikinews instead of trying to get to an article with the same name as that of the portal? The way Wikinews titles its articles, it's highly unlikely that they'll have the same title as the portal; it generally just gives you a "Wikinews doesn't have an article with this title" notice, which is no help at all. While some topics have categories within Wikinews, they're in the minority, and they'd rank high in the search results anyway, so it's not as if you'd lose anything.
