George Paterson Lyon

George Paterson Lyon (24 February 1834 - 10 August 1917) was a Scottish painter.

Life[edit]

His father was William Lyon, his mother was Jean Paterson.

George Paterson Lyon was born on 24 February 1834 in Glasgow.

In 1881 the census puts him at Whistlefield in Row near Dunbartonshire.

He stayed at the Chapel of Boquhapple in Stirlingshire, near Thornhill.

In the Post Office directory he named 79 West Regent Street as his address.[1]

In 1885 he was staying at 212 West Regent Street in Glasgow.[2]

He stayed at 35 Kersland Terrace in Hillhead in 1886-87.[3]

In 1901 he was at Auchentulloch, married to Elizabeth Clarke Saunders, known as Bessie. Bessie was the daughter of David Saunders from Darroch. George and Bessie had married on 16 November 1886 in Luss.[4]

Art[edit]

His work Autumn: Loch Lomond was exhibited in the 1885 summer exhibition of the Royal Academy in London.[5]

Death[edit]

He died at the age of 83 in 1917. He was staying at his last address: Firbank, Innellan, Argyll. Innellan is 4 miles south of Dunoon. The value of his estate was £683, 11 shillings and 1 penny.
