Walter Francis Shattuck was born December 12, 1871 in Urbana, IllinoistoSamuel Walker Shattuck, a University of Illinois professor and administrator, and Adelaide Louise (White) Shattuck. He attended Champaign High School and the University of Illinois, graduating with a B. S. in Architecture in 1891. By 1904 he had begun independent practice as an architect, and circa 1909 formed a partnership with Harry H. Hussey known as Shattuck & Hussey.
In 1899 Shattuck joined the faculty of the Chicago School of Architecture, a school operated jointly by the Armour Institute and the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1902 he suceeded Louis J. Millet as dean, and held the position until his retirement in 1915.[1]
His sister married University architect James McLaren White.
Hussey a member of White & Hussey c.1903-c.1908 with Thomas E. White and private practice c.1908-c.1909 in Lansing, Michigan. Possibly worked in Detroit.[2]
