User Talk Guestbook

Welcome! My name is Jack, believe it or not.

About me[edit]

I'm a 17 year old from the City of SheffieldinEngland. My main interests are sport, geography and music, and this is indicated in my edits.

I mainly use the English Wikipedia and the Spanish Wikipedia now and again. I also have a Wikimedia commons account. See my global account. I am also Jackrm, an account which I use for tedious tasks such as using AWB.

I've been using Wikipedia since early 2006, though I didn't start editing properly until 2007. I made the majority of my edits in 2007, before disappearing until July 2010. In that time I have totalled over 7000 edits.[1] My edits consist of anti-vandalism, being a gnome, an Ogre, and focusing on certain articles now and again, trying to get them up to the standard they deserve. I like to participate in reqeusts for adminship, articles for deletion, and discuss matters at administrators' noticeboard on incidents and other talk pages. I edit mainspace as well as reverting vandalism, and I ensure all content added by myself and other editors is verifiable. I have uploaded several images and sound clips, and some logos and non-free images. Most of my edits nowadays are done in my free time.

I'm not an administrator, and have no desire to be one. The only rights I have on Wikipedia are the rollback feature and reviewing.[2] I used to have a rather wide knowledge of the ways of Wikipedia, but unfortunately, alot of it has changed since I started editing again, so please don't hesitate to shout at me.

I created User:Jack/ABs, which is a list of guestbooks for people to sign. Guestbooks have been a bit controversial on Wikipedia, and rightly so, as some people join Wikipedia looking to use it as a social networking site. This is not what Wikipedia is for. The users in the list are all people who edit Wikipedia properly, as I removed all those who use the website solely for social networking. The list is pretty big now, and my guestbook is the second biggest on Wikipedia. Drop by and sign it! Even Jimmy Wales encourages guestbooks:

You keep asking how they [signature books] help build an encyclopedia. But you also link to Wikipedia:Esperanza. I think that is your answer, no? Anything that builds a spirit of friendliness and co-operation and helps people get to know each other as human beings seems to me a good thing. Unlike divisive userboxes, the autograph books seem to just be about saying hello and being friendly.

Jimmy Wales, 13:08, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

A few notes[edit]

  • I completely disagree with having to be civil to people who aren't civil to others, and to hypocrites, so don't be surprised if you see me using the words fuck, idiot, fool, or shit. Basically, don't be a fucking idiot. Wikipedia is full of fools unfortunately.
  • I may not reply to all messages immediately, due to my strange editing patterns of Wikipedia. I may edit rapidly one day, and not at all the next, but I will reply to your message.[1]
  • Do not hesitate to ask me anything, though. I will reply.
  • I have forgotten alot in my 3 year leave, so please educate me.

Today's motto...

Please do not neglect to read the Motto of the Day; it is considered vandalism.
