Jerome William Lavoie (Jerry) is a resident of Columbus, Mississippi. He is an Automation Engineer for Severstal North America (SNA), a steel manufacturing corporation.









Born[edit]

Jerry was born on March 21, 1969atSt. Mary's Regional Medical CenterinLewiston, Maine, at 10:00a.m.. He was baptisedatthe Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lewiston, Maine.

He is the son of Jacqueline (Carrier) Lavoie (aka: Jackie) of Auburn, Maine and Maurice W. Lavoie (aka: Bill) of Lewiston, Maine. He is the youngest of four siblings, including sister: Joline Manseau, and brothers: Ronald and Julien. At the time of his birth, the family resided in Lewiston, Maine. Jackie was a homemaker, and Bill was a Textiles Engineer at the Hill Mill division of Bates Mill until 1971, when the mill closed.

Childhood[edit]

After the closure of the Hill Mill, the family moved to Bedford, New Hampshire, as Bill took a job at Waumbec Mills in Manchester, New Hampshire. Jerry lived in Bedford for the remainder of his Childhood. He attended the following schools:


While in school, Jerry was very involved with the school music and drama programs. In grammar school, he starred as the leading role in public performances of Oklahoma!, and Bye Bye Birdie, in which now-actress/comedianne Sarah Silverman, now-screenwriter Steven Sills, now-actress Bridget Walsh, now- metal band booking agent and rock musician Danny Bigg (he now goes by 'Sullivan Bigg'), and now-interactive media and Font designer Matthew Butterick also appeared. In 8th grade, he was a member of the ragazzi (children's choir) for a series of performances of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana at The Palace Theatre, Manchester, New Hampshire.

Jerry was a childhood friend and next-door neighbor of famous opera star Patricia Racette.

In high school he was President of the drama club, Theatre Knights, and had the lead role in 8 public performance plays, including The Man Who Came to Dinner. He also was in the Chorus. In Chorus, he made the New Hampshire All-State, All-State Jazz, All New England, and All Eastern Music Festivals. (He made solo at each festival.) In his senior year, he was in a Chamber Vocal Quartet at the Concord Community Music School, on a Scholarship from Chubb-LifeAmerica. The Quartet performed at First NightinBoston, Massachusetts that year. Trivia: Later in life, while in Navy boot camp, Jerry was in the Recruit Chorus.

Navy[edit]

Jerry entered the Delayed Entry Program for the United States Navy during his Senior Year in High School. Upon Graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy for the advanced Nuclear propulsion Program. Here are the highlights of his 9-year Naval Career:

While in the Navy, Jerry had the opportunity to travel the world. Foreign places he has been include:

He is a "Shellback", and a "Golden Shellback" (see Line-crossing ceremony). He is also a member of "The Order of the Blue Nose" (for sailors who have crossed the Arctic Circle), "The Order of the Golden Dragon" (for sailors who have crossed the International Date Line). "The Order of the Ditch" (for sailors who have passed-through the Panama Canal), and "The Safari to Suez" for sailors who have passed-through the Suez Canal).

He earned designation as Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist.

He served as Afloat Safety Manager and Safety Officer for 4 years in Bainbridge. (added NEC 9571)

Post-Navy[edit]

Jerry is currently employed by Severstal North America at the Columbus, Mississippi steel works, and he previously worked for Nucor Steel Corporation at two US locations. Highlights of his career to date are:

Work Expertise[edit]

Jerry has a broad range of experience programming various platforms of industrial process equipment, including:

Siemens Programmable Logic Controller

Database design and programming in web-based multi-client production environments (SQL/MySQL/Oracle).

He programs in numerous languages including the Microsoft .Net suite, JavaScript, and PHP.

He is also considered a Subject Matter ExpertonRolling Theory, AC and DC Drives, Power Systems, and Sensors/ Instrumentation.

Mankind Project[edit]

Jerry Lavoie became interested in the mythopoetic men's movement in 2004. He began attending a Mankind Project Integration Group in September of that year. After learning what the project was about, he decided to go through the initiation training, called the New Warrior Training Adventure in MKP's Greater Carolinas Center, held at the Besty-Jeff Penn 4-H center in Reidsville, NC. He selected the totem: Confident Ram, which is now his animal name. In 2005, he was elected to the position of Community Leader (President) of the Mankind Project of Charleston. He held that post until he was transferred by Nucor to Indiana in 2006. He is currently on a 3-year Sabbatical from the project, to facilitate settling-in to his cross-country move and new job.

Personal Life[edit]

My beloved dog, the late Gilligan; God took him to heaven because he was so very special.

Jerry is single (never-married). He is a Roman Catholic. Jerry frequently volunteers in the local schools, where he presents information on Manufacturing jobs, and Engineering. He loves Dogs. He spends most of his free time in his landscaping and gardening hobby. He also enjoys using and editing Wikipedia.
