Operation Barbary was a US Marine Corps operation involving 10 Navy Seals, six Marines and three Air Force pararescuemen, and helped rescue the MV Maersk Alabama, the ship that was taken prisoner.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Roberts, a new platoon commander, commanded the mission. He shot a pirate with his M16, while another pirate shot one of his Marine, but he was killed by Lieutenant Roberts. 20 More Marines then arrive, but by then, the Seals had the situation under control.
Meanwhile, on the ground, Marines attacked the village, using two ARH-70 aircraft, along with an MV-22 Osprey which landed a force of Seals and Marines. Although supported by hum-vees which fired TOW anti-tank missiles , they were forced to withdraw under heavy fire.
One Marine was reported killed, and five wounded, including a Seal. One Seal is reported missing in action, and is held by the pirates, along with the captain of the ship.
