    2002–2006[edit]

Originally believed to be aliens, Rex and his twin sister Cassie arrive in Salem on the 4th of July after a "crash landing" during a meteor shower. Naked and unable to speak English, the twins are taken in by Shawn (Jason Cook) and Belle (Kirsten Storms). Belle's mother Marlena (Deidre Hall) take an interest in the twins when they help her uncover repressed memories of her past. However, Rex and Cassie are captured by the government and Marlena becomes their psychiatrist to protect them. Belle's father John (Drake Hogestyn) discovers that he shares a connection with the twins via the DiMera crime family. When news of their existence hits the press, Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) successfully petitions the court for guardianship of the twins. The twins soon register for college at Salem University where they are confronted by DiMera henchman Wilhelm Rolf (William Utay) posing as a professor at and they are reprogrammed to carry out their "mission."[1]

In 2003, Rex catches the eye of Mimi Lockhart (Farah Fath) but he pushes her away. In February 2003, Rex and Cassie learn that Tony and Marlena are their biological parents. Rex finishes college at an accelerated pace which makes Tony very proud. Meanwhile, Rex set out to build a bomb for a special project but when he is kidnapped, his experiment backfires and causes a series of earthquakes. Fortunately, Cassie comes to his rescue using their special twin connection. Seeing how different he is from his family, Rex sets out to find out through the exploration of his genetic makeup. In May 2003, Rex begins researching his DNA and accidentally discovers that Tony and Marlena aren't his parents, but Roman Brady is his father. Despite Mimi urging him to come clean, Rex likes being a DiMera and decides to keep his paternity secret. Determined to find his mother, Rex violently confronts Rolf who confirms that Marlena birthed the twins as a surrogate. Rex seemingly kills Rolf and convinces Mimi to help him hide the body.[2]
