From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Extended content

I am a 64 year old Irish journalist with over 40 years experience in the newspaper industry. I have worked in every role right up to editor and am currently a part time journalist with an Irish regional newspaper. I am also an experienced Wikipedia editor who has been creating and editing pages for over seven years. I was a graduate of the London College of Communications (London College of Printing) in 1974.

Paid Editor

I sometimes accepts paid commissions from clients who wish to publish a page on Wikipedia but don't know how to do it or have the capability. In this role I am careful to advise as to the required neutrality for Wikipedia articles and the fact that these are encyclopedia entries not advertisements. I am a great believer in the ideals of Wikipedia and particularly the concept of providing a free encyclopedia with unbiased non sponsored content.

I believe in the Five pillars of Wikipedia and -

  • That Wikipedia is first and foremost an encyclopedia
  • The content written from a neutral point of view
  • The content is free so that anyone can use, edit, and distribute
  • Editors should treat each other with respect and civility
  • Wikipedia has no firm rules

As with all journalism there is no room for biased reporting, it must be fair, balanced and true. If I had not followed this concept all of my career then I would no longer be a journalist.

Personal Interests

My personal interests are history and matters maritime. I particularly enjoy researching and producing pages for items of local historical interest and also in updating those which have already been published. I enjoy discovering new items which need Wikipedia articles and also maintaining other pages in my area which have fallen behind.

Matters Maritime

Another area of interest to me are matters maritime and almost anything to do with the sea (unfortunately not its creatures), boats and navigation. I live beside the sea and love it.

Need another opinion?

Areas of Irish interest are my favourite topic so if you are working on an Irish page and feel I might be able to add something I would love to hear from you.
