I joined Wikipedia in 2016 to create a page dedicated to Tommie Earl Jenkins so I could document the process of making a page from a stub and teach my students at Charles Sturt University how to become editors for their Wikipedia assignments.
I hold a PhD in ecology, parasitology and ornithology, so mostly try and ensure the scientific accuracy of pages on Wikipedia.
My current activities include:
making pages for scientists [Note: as a scientist myself, this counts as a conflict of interest, however, as I scientist I am trained to use dispassionate language and always use verified sources and not my own knowledge (except for photographs)].
watching films and checking details of the films against Wikipedia, especially as regards to animal identification.
working on ectoparasite stubs (mostly fleas, lice and hippoboscid flies at the moment).
