Dr. Tony Page

[edit]

Hello everyone! My e-mail address is: svabhava77@yahoo.co.uk

I have been contributing to Wikipedia for about four years now and find it a very valuable and democratic resource. I was born in 1957 in London, England (where I still live and work) and am an Oxford University-trained Doctor of Philosophy (German-Austrian Literature) and a student of Buddhism for some 25 years. I am a practicing and teaching Mahayana Buddhist, have lectured on Buddhism at the University of London (SOAS), and specialise in the "Mahayana Mahaparinirvana Sutra", on which scripture I have created the world's first ever specialised website. I have authored the following books:

"Vivisection Unveiled: An Expose of the Medical Futility of Animal Experimentation" (Jon Carpenter Publications, Oxford, 1997)

"Buddhism and Animals: A Buddhist Vision of Humanity's Rightful Relationship with the Animal Kingdom" (UKAVIS, London, 1999)

"Buddha and God" (Nirvana Publications, London, 2,000)

"The Mahayana Mahaparinirvana Sutra" in 12 Volumes tr. by Kosho Yamamoto (myself as editor) (Nirvana Publications, London, 1999 - 2,000)

"Buddha-Self: The 'Secret' Teachings of the Buddha in the Mahaparinirvana Sutra" (Nirvana Publications, London, 2003).

Thank you for any interest which you might show in my contributions to Wikipedia! All good wishes to you - from Tony (TonyMPNS 12:01, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC))

Dear Dr. Tony, I have seen some buddhism text written by you in response to some interesting (perhaps futile?) discussion on the buddhism wiki. Your responses have been fair and explanatory-well done! I would like to invite you to http://www.newbuddhist.com/forum/index.php I am a regular there and the people are great. If you have the time that is. I am under the moniker of Xrayman-come and join. regards, Richard.--Read-write-services 22:02, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply on my user page. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts regarding vivisection, as I understand you have authored a book on the subject (maybe you could slip me an extract ;) ) purely for interests sake-of course. I would respect and hold your right of copyright ownership, as I am a writer myself. regards,Richard.--Read-write-services 23:50, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello once again Tony,

I got your msg, thanks. I completely agree with your thoughts on Vivisection. I have always thought that people who agree should read this [1], perhaps their views may change, or maybe they might wish to provide themselves as "experiments" to discount the "animals feel no pain" issue. I live in Victoria, Australia-couldn't you pick the accent, mate :) I was just requesting an extract-electronic form. I would not want to deplete your hardcopy stocks that could provide you with income! (I know the feeling-I'm waiting for $247 for an article I wrote 3 months ago!). --Read-write-services 00:42, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Dear Tony,

As you know, I received your book in the mail, "Buddhism and Animals" and I have been reading it for some time now, I just want to say thankyou for the information it provides. I wish you well and i am always lurking around here seeing what edits/contributions you have been making. kind regards--Read-write-services 00:14, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
