  1. ^ The nickname "Cardunals" was derived from the names of the four towns whose students went to Dundee: Carpentersville, East and West Dundee, and Algonquin. The school's mascot was a cardinal.
  • ^ The state series class which a school competes in not only depends on the school's student population, but on the sport or activity. Tennis and girls golf divide schools into two classes; cross country, competitive dance, boys golf, soccer, track & field, and wrestling divide into three; and baseball/softball, basketball, and volleyball divide into four. Each sport has its own enrollment classification cutoffs numbers. The more "A"s in a class, the larger the schools competing. For more information on this, see IHSA Enrollments & Classifications.
  • ^ Schools are not assigned a classification for football until they have qualified for the playoffs each year. A school's classification not only depends on their student population, but on the populations of the other schools who have qualified. Thus, some schools routinely move between classes.
  • ^ Competitive cheerleading uses a three-class system, but instead of 1A, 2A, and 3A classifications, the sport uses S, M, and L classifications.
  • ^ a b c Crystal Lake Central, Cary Grove, and Crystal Lake South form a cooperative team for girls golf
  • ^ McHenry High School is a program which combines students from McHenry East High School and McHenry West High School.
