P.C. Cast books

[edit]

Hi, I've been watching your edits concerning P.C. Cast and her books with interest. I'd like to suggest that you take a look at these pages: Wikipedia:Notability (books) and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction). In a nutshell, the point is that articles about books are supposed to do more than summarize the plot; most importantly, they need to show that independent reliable sources have said something significant about the book. I found a pile of such sources while I was beefing up the author article here, and I suspect that at this point, most or all of the House of Night books have had sufficient coverage in such reliable sources to qualify for articles. But so far the articles haven't demonstrated this, and as a result other editors have been deleting the content of the book articles and "redirecting" these back to P.C. Cast. (One way to get back to these pages is to go to P.C. Cast and click on the "What links here" link on the left side of the page; that will show you a list of other pages that link to P.C. Cast.) If you can find and add links to reviews, news articles, best-seller list information, and the like for each book, it would go a long way toward establishing that a separate article for that book is justified. As long as these articles have nothing but plot summaries, they're likely to keep disappearing. As I've said, my guess is that these sources do exist; they just have to be found. Welcome to Wikipedia, and best luck with this project. --Arxiloxos (talk) 07:21, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(I'm responding to your note at my talk page; I'll keep your user page on my watchlist, so feel free to respond here.) I'm happy to help. Your recent additions at Betrayed (A House of Night novel) are a start. Ultimately the decisions about these matters are made by consensus, and different editors have different ideas about just where the notability threshhold ought to be; so, as you might guess, and as the guideline pages suggest, multiple cites to reliable sources are better than just one, and I'd certainly encourage you to keep looking.--Arxiloxos (talk) 07:43, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thanks. You're very helpful. Can I ask something? How can you add pictures in your articles? Bntz (talk) 10:39, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The note above gives the information about what happened to the Betrayed article. (also, you may wish to read WP:OWN - the content an editor creates is never a "yours". When you press "save page" there is the following notice: "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed for profit by others, do not submit it.") With regard to PC Cast books, pictures are going to be an issue. Unlike fansites, Wikipedia follows copyright law which restricts how we use copyright images such as book covers and internal illustrations from books. We will also not accept fan art to illustrate someone elses work. See: WP:FAIR, WP:COPY, WP:IMAGE for some information that may help you. -- The Red Pen of Doom 12:33, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link. It's helpful. Bntz (talk) 09:48, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

The article Betrayed (novel) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Almost the entire content of this article is already in the main series article House of Night (series).

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 05:05, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
