USCGA

[edit]

Hi. Having come across some of the WP:WikiProject United States Coast Guard Auxiliary categories, I thought I might make some suggestions as someone who's been around a bit. The first would be that making a WikiProject is generally a last resort because as you've found out, it takes a heck of a lot of time that could be spent on improving articles. And WikiProjects aren't really about articles, they're first and foremost about people, and improving the communication between them. So if one hasn't got an existing pool of people already interested in a particular subject, then you're probably better off using a more general forum like Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history and saving your energy for editing articles. Focus is good, but there's always a tradeoff between focus and being able to have a decent number of people interested - sometimes that can happen with sexy subjects like battleships, but even the big country WikiProjects are pretty moribund in many cases these days. Maybe you could do something with the USCG as a whole - or more likely an international project on coastguards of the world, but even then my guess would be that you'd struggle to get decent numbers - for instance WP:WikiProject Maritime Trades died a death and stutters along as a taskforce of WP Transport. That's not to say that people aren't quietly editing away, it's just they're not really doing WikiProject stuff, and they can surface at the WP Transport talkpage if they need something. Anyway, just some ideas - happy editing... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Le Deluge (talkcontribs) 02:46, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

... for creating the USCGAUX Wikiproject. I've just added the template to U.S. Coast Guard Pipe Band, which I recently created. LavaBaron (talk) 04:06, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
