Welcome

[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, Freuchie, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions, especially what you did for Mac Eoin Bissett family. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. A friendly question

[edit]

Hello, I see that you edited Battle of Raith using material from The Canterbury Dictionary of Hymnology which does not appear to be available without a subscription. Your help would be appreciated in fulfilling a request at WP:RX. Thanks, RandomCanadian (talk | contribs) 01:41, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I am unfamiliar with the Canterbury Dictionary... so I am sure I did not edit on that basis. However if that provides support for my analysis so much the better. Sorry I cannot be of more help. Freuchie (talk) 09:34, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you were the one that added that source to the article, but nevermind, thanks for the answer. RandomCanadian (talk | contribs) 13:42, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... I went to Nicholson's original article in the Celtic Review - there is nothing in my sourcing which says Canterbury or Dictionary or Hymnology. Sorry, but still not sure where you are coming from here. Freuchie (talk) 14:09, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This diff begs to differ, but nevermind, I will look elsewhere. Cheers, RandomCanadian (talk | contribs) 14:54, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OK.... my apologies, RandomCanadian.... If you follow the link you come to a mini-biography of Nicholson. https://hymnology.hymnsam.co.uk/l/lachlan-macbean That was all I was linking to. I had delved no deeper than that and am certainly unaware of where you could access the hard copy you are seeking. As you can see I am really completely unaware of what else the people who did this site do or have. Sorry for the confusion... Freuchie (talk) 15:44, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your Credentials

[edit]

I see that you have edited several Clan sites, not just Clan Grant. What are your credentials? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pheigi (talkcontribs) 16:18, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a bit telegraphic. Please advise the background to your enquiry. Are you querying the validity of my input? Suffice it to say I have been researching and publishing in this and allied areas for a long time. Freuchie (talk) 16:35, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I am but without implying you are incorrect nor in any way meaning to offend. I'm a Medieval historian by degree so I simply wondered if you were a historian as well or what type of research you were doing that enabled you to have such broad knowledge. Do you have a list of your publications? I would be most interested in reading what you've written. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.174.60.3 (talk) 15:12, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It is curious that in effect you invite me to parade my credentials, again without announcing who you are - which is against Wikipedia protocol. You will have to tempt me a lot further. [And besides... who in your mind qualifies for the epithet "historian"? I know of several who might reasonably be seen to meet normal criteria but whom I would dismiss out of hand.] Meanwhile my own view - along with Wikipedia - is that Cult of Personality is a cul-de-sac.

Try focussing on the issues rather than the personalities.212.69.49.172 (talk) 15:24, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I told you who I was. I'm a historian and I've put my credential on my page now. But you are reluctant to provide a list of your own publications which is a shame because you seem very knowledgeable and I would like to read them. Not to shoot you down, but to learn what you have found. I don't really understand your last comment about focusing on issues rather than personalities but that's ok. You've made your position clear so I'll leave you in peace. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pheigi (talkcontribs) 15:35, 24 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your Comment on IACOBVS

[edit]

Greetings. I received a message from you that I could not open regarding IACOBVS (or Iacobus/Jacobus) and its relation to the English given name James. I know a fair bit about the lineage/evolution from Ya'akov in Hebrew all the way to the Scots English name James. But feel free to send me your comment on my Talk page. Thanks. --IACOBVS (talk) 19:51, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
