I apologise, I failed to explain properly, User talk:Mcspoosh is a sockpuppet of a previously banned editor. Sorry for the inconvenience. Sacharin (talk) 20:54, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
This was a vandal who created several accounts to vandalize the same page. The first account was blocked (not a banned user, different things). Since the page is now protected and the vandal is inactive there is no reason to block the other accounts. shoeofdeath (talk) 21:00, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
The backlog at Good Article Nominations has recently exploded to 236 unreviewed articles! Out of 264 total nominations, 17 are on hold, 10 are under review, and one is seeking a second opinion. Please go to WP:GAN and review an article or three as soon as you have a chance!
The top five categories with the largest backlogs are: Sports and recreation (47 articles), Film and cinema (25 articles), Television and journalism (16 articles), Art and architecture (15 articles), and Politics and government (14 articles).
If every participant of WikiProject Good Articles could review just one article in the next week, the backlog would be almost eliminated!
Reviewer of the Month
Dihydrogen Monoxide is the GAN Reviewer of the Month of December, based on the assessments made by Epbr123 of the number and thoroughness of the reviews made by individual reviewers each week. Dihydrogen Monoxide hails from Brisbane (which, incidentally, is almost a GA, kids ;)) and has been editing Wikipedia since August 2006. He mostly likes to review articles relating to music, Australia, or anything else that takes his fancy! He also has two articles waiting, and notes that there's still a huge backlog,... so get cracking!
Other outstanding reviewers recognized during the month of December include:
This WikiProject, and the Good Article program as a whole, would not be where it is today without each and every one of its members! Thank you to all!
GAReview Template
Lots of you that frequent WP:GAN have undoubtedly seen the articles under review, marked with "Review - I am reviewing this article. ...". The articles have been marked as being under review by an editor using the {{GAReview}} template. The purpose of this template is essentially to prevent two editors from reviewing the same article at the same time, so it's essentially a common courtesy notice to other editors so that they don't pass or fail an article while you're in the midst of collecting and writing comments. However, just because an article is marked, shouldn't preclude another editor from contributing to the review. If you'd like to review it, go ahead; simply collect your comments and write them down on the article's talk page – but don't pass or fail the article – leave that to the other reviewer.
To use this template yourself, simply write "#:{{GAReview}} ~~~~" on the line immediately following the article's nomination at WP:GAN. You can even leave additional comments as well (e.g. "#:{{GAReview}} I will finish my review in the next 24 hours. ~~~~"). Reviewers marking articles with this template should also observe some common etiquette; please don't mark more than 1-3 articles as being under review at a time, and please try and finish your review within 3-5 days of marking the article.
GA Sweeps
After openly requesting the community for more participants into the Sweeps, we have 3 more members on the board. They are (in no particular order) Canadian Paul, VanTucky, and Masem. Canadian Paul will be sweeping "Middle East and the World" articles. VanTucky will be sweeping "Religion, mysticism, and mythology" and "Literature" articles. Masem will be sweeping "Television episodes". We're still looking for more reviewers. Interested individuals should contact OhanaUnited for details.
At this moment, participation in the sweeps project is by invitation only, as we desire experienced reviewers who have a thorough and extensive knowledge of the criteria. This is to ensure that articles that have "fallen through the cracks" would be found and removed, and that additional articles don't fall through the cracks during the sweep.
Currently, there are 16 members working on the project, and we have reviewed 74 articles in December 2007. Of those that are swept, 275 articles are kept as GA, 126 articles are delisted, and 5 promoted to FA.
Did You Know,...
... that the total number of good and featured articles is now over 5000?
... that GA was formed on October 11, 2005 and was formerly called "Half-decent articles"?
... that many discussions were made over the years on whether GA should have a symbol placed on the main article space, yet at the end always removed?
... that there was a proposal to change the GA symbol to a green featured star?
From the Editors
Happy New Year, everyone! I'm just filling in for Dr. Cash as he's busy (or away) in real life. This explains why I wasn't prepared for a full-length article on GA process, and instead I resort to a tiny DYK for GA.
OhanaUnited
Happy New Year as well! I'm still here, and haven't totally disappeared. I had to cut back on editing and reviewing during the month of December as I made the transition from Flagstaff, ArizonatoPittsburgh, Pennsylvania. But I should be about settled in the Keystone State, so I'll be contributing more to Wikipedia again in the new year. Thanks to OhanaUnited for putting together much of the content for this newsletter! He's been working hard with the Sweeps, and the 'Did You Know' section is also a great idea, so I think that will become a regular feature now! I also figured out how to have a collapsible newsletter, so that will change our delivery options a bit. Cheers!
Whenever. I'm heading to sleep, but I'll be back around full time. Whenever is good for you. Gimme until tomorrow to respond if you start it tonight, but I am definately in... --Jayron32|talk|contribs05:44, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Dude... that so does not look teh good. But you know what, I trust you. I'd have to pick some shit off, though. Haha. Lara❤Love13:02, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
WTF?! Masterchip theater results in a car ride to your mailbox? Nice Superman pajama pants, tho. I have a ridiculous collection of pajama pants. I thought I was getting too old for them, but I've just reevaluated my position on the matter. Anyway, do0d, I'm so glad you like it... great band. A couple years ago and I probably would have sent you Maroon 5, which I'm sure that would have resulted in a less impressive smile. So yea, good times. Your camera's work ethic last night was teh suck. Bad times. BFF, Lara❤Love13:22, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Hello, I noticed you over at GlassCobra's talk and it seems s/he's not around at the moment. I had an offline conversation with a blocked user in which he agreed he had made mistakes and wanted to be able to edit under the rules. He is evidently an expert in his field, but his field is controversial. I'd like to be able to tell him someone is looking into giving him some guidance which will allow him to contribute to Wikipedia. If you are willing to adopt this user perhaps he can be unblocked for mentorship. —Whig (talk) 09:22, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Specifically he does not want a mentor who is involved in his field either as an advocate or opponent. There are people on Wikipedia who do not want anything but a particular POV to be represented and seek to condition his unblocking on being disallowed from editing in any article or talk space where his expertise is relevant. He objects to this constraint but accepts temporary limits will be placed on him while he learns how not to make mistakes that break policies or guidelines of Wikipedia. I hope that someone will be able to help him become a constructive editor. —Whig (talk) 17:29, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
If you're willing I've e-mailed him to let him know about our conversation here. Is there anything that I should do further to ask for help from another admin or seek a different mentor? —Whig (talk) 17:36, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
I'll do it. It should be a positive experience. If I need assistance from another editor/admin, I've got a Rolodex-worth of resources. I didn't even know what homeopathy was until I just read over the article, so I have no opinion one way or the other. Nor do I have an interest in picking a side. Lara❤Love18:29, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Just noticed: "#3 on the list of 100 most viewed user pages (January 2008)... how funny is that?" actually WikiCharts haven't been updated in a long time, so that data is correct, but not relative to this month. SnowolfHow can I help?20:45, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
So what are you saying? I have the #3 page, just not for January, but rather, since like October or something? Lara❤Love20:58, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. I have a lot of questions. How do I undelete a profile?I dont agree with the notabilty statement because I people I was making profiles for are semi-famous. They are on TV so I would think that would make them lagit. do you wannna adopt me?
Please read over the notability policy (WP:N). Being a TV personality does not in itself assert notability. I'm not accepting new adoptees at the moment because of limited free time. However, there are many editors accepting new adoptees listed at the link I provided. Lara❤Love18:11, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Um.
That was really a lot of bullshit that you left on my talk page. Now I have to fucking archive. I don't know which file could have been corrupt. Your MP3 player must have corrupted it. Shit! Can it be grad school teim now plz so I can live in teh dorms?!
Did you really just say 3rd Eye? Yeah...um...good times. Although 4 degrees is really teh song that makes me think about you. It's about a boyfriend who is trying to convince his girlfriend that anal sex is a way to bring them closer than 'dying, and cancer, and crying.' Note the 'cavern of treasures,' 'lets go digging' and the fact that the anus is four degrees warmer than the female genitalia. Die Eien Von Satan is a recipe for brownies, just FYI. Anyway, have fun at work. I'll have a beer or 10 for you tonite. I am teh jealous about the ham. You know the shit I can do with a ham is really quite amazing and illegal in 52 states! (that makes teh nonsense). the_undertowtalk20:07, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
WTF? Glad to know why 4 Degrees makes you think of me. That's so random... and nasty. XD Just drink your beers tonight and paste the drunk dial message over this section. Haha. Fun at work... this is teh possible? Lara❤Love20:11, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to butt in, but this is one of the funniest discussions I've seen on a talk page in ages. Please continue. --rm 'w avu12:21, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Arbcom 141
I think I finally figured out all of the formatting to get the Arbcom submittal ready. I just looked at some of the "verifiable, well sourced" but incorrect material 141 put in the Steve Allen and Ed Sullivan Show articles. It's very sad, but I don't even want to get into it in those articles. And I am ready to do this. I will file on Monday, so I will have to time to notify everyone. Thanks for the input. I'll post a link to the Arbcom case on Monday, too. Steve Pastor (talk) 20:38, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Does that title come across as pleading? Hope so, because I've got my puppy dog eyes in.
I've recently started being a bit more active on Wikipedia having used it for many years. I'm definitely in the WikiGnome category. I've spent some time patrolling new articles and recent changes (manually) and had a go at Wikifying a few articles but I do rather feel that I need a bit of stretching and exposure to other aspects of Wikipedia so I can make sure I'm actually directing my energies where they are best suited and have the best effect. Gaffertape (talk) 17:42, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for adopting me. My interests - well, in terms of things to do on Wikipedia, I'm definitely of gnome stock so I won't be planning on writing huge numbers of articles. However, I am aware that I know very little about the place, so want to at least try most things so I can get a flavour of it all. I definitely need to improve my policy knowledge.
When it comes to subject interests they are wide, but not that deep. In that I am quite into a number of topics, but there aren't many I have a really in depth knowledge about. If pushed I'd probably go for something UK geography and history as some of the things I am most interested in, perhaps with anything geeky as a secondary topic. Gaffertape (talk) 22:27, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka18:13, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi
Damn you're good looking. Brains and beauty. I envy a very lucky guy.
Congrats on your cabal victory. May the Bathrobe Cabal live forever!
Haha. I can help you build a different version... and it's not a mani/pedi... I'm getting a brow shaping and facial (STFU, hahaa). Lara❤Love17:23, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Chip, your sig code was jacked; not only not working but fucking my page code up. I fixed it... nice color? Lara❤Love17:27, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
It's just a box of shortcuts. I'm sure we'll understand no matter your decision. But even if one of us does stop speaking to you, there's always the other one. :) Lara❤Love 18:36, 9 January 2008 (UTC) P.S. I designed both of them, btw. Lara❤Love18:37, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
I use DzzD as my nick name since more than 10 years on severals website, anyway to unblock this nick or do I am really forced to use another one, if so please tell me why ?
The name is blocked. There's no getting it back. Had you not used it to promote a site of the same name, it wouldn't have been blocked. Lara❤Love18:53, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
I might have stuck my foot somewhere where I shouldn't have. User:DzzDDzzD has been created to make the same COI, SPAM article that he got banned for as User:DzzD. I tagged his userpage with a WP:SOCK and db-banned the article he made. I have a feeling I may have gone about this the wrong way. What do you say? --Pmedema (talk) 21:03, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Contribution evidence was posted by another user at User:Fedayee/LesarBaguirov Evidence. I was considering a block since it's quite apparent Ehud = AdilBaguirov from the evidence, but I waited to see what Khoikhoi would do. Khoikhoi is probably the admin who can make the best judgment here, since he has been involved with these users (see AA and AA 2) for the last two years and knows their ways. Khoikhoi has also blocked the last few Adil socks based on contribution evidence.
CheckUser did not confirm Ehud = Adil, but from his previous socks, it's apparent that CU will be of no help here. Adil is an Azeri lobbyist, and he is constantly traveling around the globe (his IPs in the past have been traced to six states including California and Texas and cities in other countries such as Baku and Moscow). I'm sure if you contact Khoikhoi now, he will give you a sufficient rationale for the block. Best, Nishkid64 (talk)19:06, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
It appears Khoikhoi may not be on Wikipedia for days/weeks, so you may not get a reply if you ask him about the block now. In that case, I ask you to reconsider the unblock, based on the evidence link I posted above. Nishkid64 (talk)19:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Do what you will, but I'm not endorsing the blocking of a user based on assumptions. I see no evidence that he's a sock. Didn't Durova just take some heavy shit for something like this? Lara❤Love02:16, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
It was a slightly different situation, but yes, Durova did take the heat for a block based on evidence she collected. Also, this block is not based on assumption, but evidence. It may be a bit circumstantial, but I feel it is good enough to show that Ehud is a sockpuppet of Adil. Besides me, there are two other admins who have reviewed the evidence and feel the same about this user. Nishkid64 (talk)02:23, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
I have reviewed the block and it appears to be correct, Ehud Lesar is almost certainly a meatpuppet or sockpuppet of Adil Bagirov. The user should be kept blocked Alex Bakharev (talk) 03:52, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for interfering, but why don't you ask for official investigation of this? This is certainly going to reach arbcom, so I suggest we get someone officially investigate the allegations of Ehud being a sock of Adil. There's not a single piece of evidence to support such a claim, checkuser also does not support this, and blocking people based on assumptions is certainly no good. So my suggestion is to get this properly investigated. Please remember that people are innocent until proven guilty. Thanks. Grandmaster (talk) 05:56, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
My computer went down hard - another HP down the drain. I've had it what, 3 months? Fuck. Anyway, I'm taking it in, so I don't know what to tell ya. Arg! Can you look at Chet Zar and see if you can integrate the last the ELs into the article? Whatev. I'm frustrated. Motherfuck. chiptalk20:48, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
It's the same signature. How can you leave this message here, and then call me a bitch on my talk page. I don't have access to the 'tow' here and you'll be fucking sorry when my computer is in the shop for a month and I have to resort to fucking skywriting, which I won't do, because you're comment sucked. So long. chiptalk23:34, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Dude, calm down!! XD I did not call you a bitch. I said your sig is a bitch. It fucks with my page code like the dumb bitch that comes to a party and starts messing with the knick knacks. If you will notice, after your sig above, the text color changes from black to indigo. Then, after another instance of your sig, the font changes from verdana to dreaded arial. Bad. Times. That's all I'm saying. Mad love, don't leave me. <3Lara❤Love01:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
I notice you're still not doing GAC at the moment. Are you not doing PR too? Because I was after a favour, but only if you're active (if not, you should take your name off the volunteers list). I was hoping for I Don't Remember to be peer reviewed so we can get it up to FA. Let me know (or, feel free to dive right in, if you want). --rm 'w avu08:41, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Love! We've got some really good reviews so far from a couple of other guys, but all the eyes that are cast upon the article at PR make its chance of passing FAC so much better. Thanks heaps! --rm 'w avu08:28, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
... appears to be some straggly noinclude thingies in there for some reason. (or no reason?) Compare with Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Liruxoyo which doesn't have them. I'm not sure what is actually going on so I dasn't change it. You CU clerks are too smart for me, so hopefully you can sort it out? ++Lar: t/c20:17, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
I hope that was Ramen with a ham sandwich as opposed to a Ramen and ham sandwich, which sounds like something Al Bundy would fix for lunch if he had some money. Lara❤Love05:01, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Can you provide the motion and evidence that Morven requests on the Onefortyone arbitration request? A motion on the previous case will be simpler and faster. I am not familiar with these matters, and am occupied with the waterboarding dispute, or else I would try to help more. JehochmanTalk21:20, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Support? Dude! I effin' nommed you and all I get is a lousy cookie?! I should at least get a keychain or a tee-shirt or something... but fine, I'll take your cookie in the spirit in which it was given. Whatev. But I better get a hot shot of you in a bathrobe with the customary thumbs up or I'm recalling your ass over this shit. I don't care if you're in that stupid category or not. Lara❤Love14:31, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
hi, this is me sushant again after a bit long time. can you please review this for GA please. i request you, no actually i beg you; please please please review this article. Sushant gupta (talk) 08:43, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry. I don't have time right now. Beginning of my work week today and my to-do list is backed up from last week. In fact, I'm reminded of a peer review I forgot to do to, bah. Sorry. Lara❤Love14:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
