Børøyholmen Lighthouse

[edit]

Hey Jay1279. After clicking "random article" to look for something to improve, I ran into Børøyholmen Lighthouse - and couldn't find anything there to improve ;). Thanks for writing it; it's very rare to find an article on a geographic point or building of interest so perfectly referenced. Ironholds (talk) 05:12, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Norway Barnstar of National Merit
Thanks for your superb contributions to Norwegian villages, churches and lighthouses etc and improving quality. Your efforts have been invaluable! Keep it up! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:59, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your work is really amazing. It's great to browse and see a minimum quality for Norway with nice pin maps and images. Keep it up, it means a lot to have this sort of consistency, I wish others followed your example!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:09, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WPCleaner 2.0

[edit]
Installer for WPCleaner

Hello Jay1279.

I would like to inform you that a new version of WPCleaner is available replacing the old version (v1.43) dating back to almost a year. Unfortunately, going from version 1.43 to 2.0 automatically isn't possible and will require a new installation. It's necessary to install version 2.0 to take advantage of updates and bug fixes. Version 1.43 will have to be uninstalled manually, as there are no more updates for it.

The installation procedure is described at Wikipedia:WPCleaner/Installation.

Note: for usage in Bot mode, I strongly advise to check the modifications to be sure that the tasks run correctly

Churches in Norway

[edit]

Hi there, Jay1279, and thanks for all your recent efforts on Norwegian churches. It's great to have so many additions and to have such consistency in all the presentations. If you hadn't already had a barnstar in this connection, you would have received one from me. Great work!--Ipigott (talk) 14:26, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking a citation and information about a page you created.

[edit]

In 2017 you created a page for the Norwegian town of Arendal, which included the following passage.

Around the turn of the twentieth century, when thousands of Norwegians sought to take advantage of the more stable economic climate of the United States by emigrating, many of those from Arendal took their economic traditions with them. In New York City and the surrounding areas, a great deal of Americans who claim Norwegian ancestry can trace their roots to Arendal, as a great deal of Norwegian sailors, trimmers, shipbuilders, and carpenters from Arendal settled in areas of New York such as Brooklyn, Port Richmond (Staten Island), and several industrial centers in northern New Jersey such as Jersey City, Bayonne, Perth Amboy, and Elizabeth. In 1939, Arendal had the 4th largest Norwegian tanker fleet; only Oslo, Bergen, and Stavanger were larger.

In 2022 an IP user with no other contributions added the name of a supposed ship that many of these people used to travel to the United States, the "Thomas Gundersen." I am asking about this for 2 reasons.

One, this entire passage is uncited, and I would much rather find a citation for it than delete it. But I've searched for the ship name in several ways and found nothing. And there aren't enough details in this passage for me to easily find an English-language source for it on my own. I was hoping you had some idea of where I could find a citation to support the paragraph (even without the ship name), even if it is in Norwegian?

The second reason is that my great-grandmother, originally Olga Forslin, was born in Arendal in the year 1900, and she arrived on Ellis Island in 1904. I just discovered this article last night, and if that ship name is accurate, there's a very good chance she emigrated on that ship. So, I'd love to try and find more information about this. But as I said, the ship name rendered no search results, even when I tweaked the spelling a bit. Thanks for any help you can offer. CleverTitania (talk) 18:49, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mapframes

[edit]

I'm not sure why you're replacing pushpin maps with mapframe maps in infoboxes, as you have done here and elsewhere; but if you continue with this, please don't use plain {{WikidataCoord}} for the coordinates in the {{Infobox mapframe}} template. That displays the Wikidata coordinates in the title position in the article and conflicts with the {{coord}} template in the infobox's |coordinates= field, causing the article to be added to Category:Pages with malformed coordinate tags. Either copy the {{coord}} template already in the article (with no parameters other than the numerical coordinates themselves) into {{Infobox mapframe}}, or use {{WikidataCoord|display=}} to suppress the title display of the coordinates.
