Appreciation[edit]

I see that you have uploaded two photos on Tuas Second Link (Expressway E3) and one photo on the causeway. Would you kindly, allow me to ask you a few questions? I do not have any intentions of involving it with wikipedia's removal, etc.

Concerning the photo on Expressway E3, I noticed that the expressway passes under a flyover. Is it the north-south highway, or is your father's car turning into the direction of Perling? I would like to know about it.

Also, did you take those photos as you return to Malaysia to celebrate Chinese New Year? That's my analysis on the dates you submitted your photos. Just curious. Cheers! Mr Tan 14:45, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Those photos you uploaded are nice. Hope you don't mind me asking you which part of Malaysia are you from. Oh yes, do you have any idea what is the road after the toll plaza at Causeway. In my opinion, I don't think the Causeway leads to Skudai Highway as the roadsign says Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, and Skudai Highway starts after Danga Bay (which is further up north in JB). About "Gabacho definition"[edit]

Hi there,

I wanted to contribute a little bit to Wikipedia, and I found out the word gabacho is not defined. It seems it is defined in wikitionary as transwiki, and also some webpage has a better definition, the weird thing is that it seems to be obtained from wikipedia.

I saw you deleted the entry, so I wanted to talk to you first, because I don't understand very well the reason of the deletion.

I would just copy-paste the definition from that web page I told you. Also I speak spanish and I know the nowaday use in Mexico. In fact the "Royal Acadademy of Spanish Language" (what they say it's true) has a broader and much more specific definition of "gabacho", but I guess there must be issues with their copyrights.

So what to do?

Three weeks of admin tools[edit]

Today three weeks have passed since I was granted access to the administrator toolbox. During this time I have made use of it in the following way:

• Protections and unprotections: 1
• Blocks and unblocks: 4
• Deletions and restorations: 69
• Rollbacks: 246

I've found that the rollback tool is much more useful than I'd thought for vandalism patrol. In fact it makes that task so easy that I've been doing it more than before. On the other hand I've been surprised by how little the blocking tool is needed. Having done a significant amount of vandalism patrol I have still only blocked one solitary vandal. The great majority of addresses which send out a vandal edit do so only once. Those who do it more often usually stop after a warning or two. Only rarely is a block actually needed and in those cases someone usually beats me to it.

As a side note I haven't retired from writing articles either. I'm still hoping to bring Freyr up to featured status but even though I've already performed more edits on it than on Hrafnkels saga back in the day, a lot of work remains to be done. Community expectations for featured articles have gone up and so have my own ambitions. I'm currently waiting for a couple of books I ordered to arrive and then I may be able to make the final push.

I'm trying my best to live up to the trust you showed in me by supporting my RFA. If ever you feel uncertain whether I'm using the admin tools in the best interests of the project, let me know. I am at any time willing to relinquish the mop and reapply for it to address concerns people have and ensure that I'm not using the admin tools without being trusted to do so. Another Esperanzial note...[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Problems seeing some images[edit]

Hi again, I don't know why I can't see landscape images on my computer on image galleries and Sengkang's gallery showcase (the collection of photos at the bottom of his userpage), but I can see potrait and panaroama ones. Is there anything wrong with my screen? However, when I use my laptop, its perfectly fine. Could you help me with this issue, has been bugging me for months. WP:IAR and Admins unblocking themselves[edit]

Is it true that WP:IAR does not apply to admins unblocking themselves, or is it untrue? Unfortunately opinions seem to vary, and that is a recipe for conflict. Consensus is needed, and I'm of the opinion that it would be helpful if WP:IAR explicitly mentioned it as an exception if it is true, and have proposed a wording on the page. I'm being fussy; I noticed that one you closed earlier today was about 12hrs (so only 0.5days) early and a few you closed just now were a few hours early. That's not really important, though 12 hours is a little much, I was just wondering if you thought it was 5 days like AfD or something. The currently maturing day is 12 February, but the nominations usually span most of the 24hrs, so the day subpage can't be finished until late in the UTC day. Anti-fasc[edit]

Thank you for finally closing debate on the Template:User_anti-fascism review. However, I do have to note that templates like Template:User:no_Rand were deleted MID-DEBATE, and the opposite of this antifacsism Userbox, Template:User_fascist, was deleted with NO review (though, in fairness, perhaps few bothered to defend it.) But also in fairness, I would hope the POV, divisive, polemic Userbox Template:User_anti-fascism would now be afforded the same treatment as MANY other "anti" "no..." Userboxes, and speedy deleted. Thanks for the note. I've been watching that Tfd process with great interest, but find it to be a rather slanted one, with definite "winners" and "losers." I hope some of the admins or even Jimbo Himself are taking note and are planning either a purge or an authoritative ruling on what is and is not acceptable for Userboxes. Vandal alert[edit]

Hi Diablo. I had a look at the page and I noticed the message I left was gone and in the history you had left the (rather cryptic) message: "199.216 > test4 not issued, warned > NOT EMPTY".

From that I'm taking it as meaning that you issued a warning? So.. two questions for you in regard to that:

1. How does one go about warning a user that hasn't got an account?
2. What does the "NOT EMPTY" comment mean?

WP:POINT[edit]

I really dont agree that Striver's listing of other religion-list articles violates WP:POINT. The discussion really shouldnt be narrowed down to just Islam-list articles. Listing a whole bunch of one really makes the case for listing all religion-list articles for AFD. The same reasoning works for all of them, whether they're kept or deleted. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Longest streets in London[edit]

I'm a bit concerned about this closure. If you look at the debate, the delete voters are very eloquently arguing that the article is completely unverifiable precisely because its contents are original research conducted by multiple people with no standardizations. That's arguing violation of WP:V and WP:NOR.

My count of the opinions at close (assuming no sockpuppets) was 22 delete, 19 keeps. 3, maybe 4 of those keeps, depending on how you read it, were "rewrites" or "weak keeps pending sourcing." Another couple of them admitted that the article violated WP:NOR, but that that was OK. The icing on the cake was the guy who compiled the article, who came in, pointed out that the information was original to him, newly compiled, and unsourceable, and then threw down a "keep." It occurs to me that that pretty much invalidates the keep votes arguing for sourcing or rewrites - the guy who compiled the article states that it can't be done.

22 to 19 is 54% delete, 46% keep. If you throw out the people who predicated their keeps on "it's OK to violate WP policy" and "I vote for an admittedly impossible event", you're looking at 22 to 12 or maybe 13.

Please explain why you deleted this article. My previous inquiry here was completely ignored by you and simply tossed on one of your archived discussion pages. If you're going to go willy-nilly deleting articles when the AfD clearly indicates that that's not what the pariticipants decided, you are abusing your priviliges as an adminsitrator. IsPunk'd "irrelevant"?[edit]

I'm in the middle of a dispute with backburner001 over the Punk'd reference at Lindsay Lohan. This user says it's irrelevant. I laid out the case for its relevance—with a rewrite for clarity—and he deleted it again. His response:『I did my part – I removed content I felt was not significant and I made suggestions for improvement when I was asked for them. If you are interested in working together to fix this problem, do your part and improve the Punk’d reference or give me a legitimate reason for keeping the reference that was in there before.』(Essentially, "You think it should stay? Prove it to me and me alone," which sounds awfully close to self-appointed WikiGodhood, but I've been called dramatic already. More on point, "working together" to this editor means he deletes it, but someone else has to "fix" it.) This user's page includes as a goal, "[r]emove irrelevant/trivial content", but a quick look at his edit history is telling: on 30 January, he removed from WP:MOS a "reference to naming conventions for Mormonism"; on 19 February, he deleted "2 paragraphs" from Hiram College "to keep concise". Since then, every deletion of material has been a Punk'd reference, from Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Jena Malone, Beyoncé Knowles, Mandy Moore, Chris Klein (actor) and Proof (rapper). After we blasted each other's antagonism (real or imagined), I threatened him with a WP:3RR war and mutual blocking, and backburner001 then agreed to stop removing the reference pending the discussion that results from my Request for Comment. Hi Mailer diablo! I finally posted my responses to the first set of questions. I apologize for taking so long; first Real Life got in the way for a day or two, and then my own perfectionistic procrastination kept causing my to put it off (basically I spent so long ruminating over the questions in my mind in order to "get it right" that I let it get in the way of actually typing out any answers). I finally realized I was making way too much out of it (it's a learning process after all, not a final exam) and made myself sit down and finish it.
