Declined revdel[edit]

Hi there. I saw you declined the revdel request at Utpal Kumar Singh. I wanted to seek feedback for future reference. Seeing the copypatrol report, there’s quite a handful of highlighted text from that revision, which is why I requested a revdel of that revision. See iThenticate report where it highlights the portions and they’re a bit significant, if my iThenticate link doesn’t work, you could just click on iThenticate from the copypatrol report. Looking forward to hearing from you. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 16:04, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanderwaalforces I can't access the pdf to compare (a 503 service unavailable error) and you hadn't removed any offending text from the article so I've got nothing to make a judgement against. If you remove the offending text, then I'll look again. Nthep (talk) 16:59, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The article was fixed already, by the creator. Yes, I couldn’t directly access the pdf but was able to via iThenticate. Anyway, maybe this isn’t necessary. Thank you for being a great admin :) Vanderwaalforces (talk) 17:12, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Vanderwaalforces: Compare User talk:Deb#Utpal Kumar SinghonDeb's talk page. I'm not sure about the intentions of the creator, but this looks like unfinished business to me. Renerpho (talk) 00:25, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Renerpho Yeah, I am actually aware of that thread on Deb’s talk page and agree to an extent that this looks like an unfinished business. But since the admin declined the request, I respect that as they should know better. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 04:42, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Renerpho @Vanderwaalforces I declined the RD because a) I couldn't see the source to compare with, b) I couldn't tell if or what offending material had been removed, and c) which revisions need to be RD. Now if the creator is saying "whoops I included some copyright-violating stuff" then a) isn't that big a deal anymore, but me or any other admin still needs to know which revisions need to RD. I just need someone to say it was added in revision X and removed in revision Y and it can be sorted in no time. Nthep (talk) 06:25, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nthep, I just realized that I didn’t add the revision that needs to be revdel in my original request, please see Special:Diff/1229369845. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 08:57, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Just to say that the current version is well below standard. I don't know what User:Aviram7 was thinking of when he moved it out of draft. But at the moment I'm in holiday mood so I'm not going to be tackling the problem. Deb (talk) 07:24, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I don't think my writings were WP:CV compliant, but I was did not actually add copyvio material to my article.Happy editing --- ᗩvírαm7(@píng mє-tαlk mє) 13:01, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What I don't understand is why it cannot be draftified again? Renerpho (talk) 21:06, 22 June 2024 (UTC) Aviram7?Renerpho (talk) 21:09, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's no technical reason against redraftifying but IIRC there is policy or guidance about not doing it, to prevent articles yo-yoing between draft and article space. Nthep (talk) 10:00, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think, with common sense though, it’s best to XfD any article if you draftify it and it gets moved back to mainspace. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 11:39, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User:Master of all cinemalovers and MCQ[edit]

Hi Nthep. The posts you removed from Master of all cinemalovers at MCQ were almost certainly related to one or more of the file-related notifications that have been added to their user talk page. Since every file they've uploaded seems to have had some issue, it's not clear which one or ones they're asking about. They seem to be uploading files without providing any copyright licenses and other information. Some of these might be OK as non-free content, but there are a few that likely will need to be deleted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:48, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CIR etc, and that includes a basic ability to communicate. Perhaps I was a bit bitey but I'd expect some sort of question, even if they had just written "help?" I'd be more receptive. Nthep (talk) 06:47, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize if it seemed as if I was criticizing what you did. I probably would've done the same myself. FWIW, it seems some of the issues with the film posters that uploaded were resolved by another user who converted them to non-free; however, I don't see how to resolve File:Uttam Kumar receiving National Award in 1967.jpeg and I don't think it can be converted to non-free. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:53, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I didn't take it that way. I hope they take your advice as it's not only uploading images without info bit also reverting DatBot when images have been reduced. Nthep (talk) 16:57, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Heads up 2[edit]

Some of these new revdeletion requests are very tricky. Ruigeroeland plagiarized much of his content from a copyrighted source that is behind a paywall. I was able to access it in a clever way. However, the edit summaries will most likely violate WP:LINKVIO. When you see my RD1 requests, you may also have to revdelete the requests. I am pinging Wizardman, {{[u|Premeditated Chaos}}, Whpq, DanCherek, CambridgeBayWeather, so that someone can scrub the revisions in a timely fashion Scorpions1325 (talk) 20:27, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have done all I can for now. I will not remove any more until someone deletes them. I will email you the link. Scorpions1325 (talk) 22:14, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Bjendag Gewog[edit]

Thanks Nthep for your revedits to this page, which are much appreciated. We are conducting editing workshops in Bhutan with nuns and monks to explain the logic and rules of English Wikipedia, so that they can help develop their Dzongkha Wikipedia. It is extremely helpful to have demonstrated to them how the WP community collaborates to ensure the quality and rigour of the content. (Notions of plagiarism can be difficult to grasp because in the monastic setting they are required to copy texts exactly. Thats how the texts retain their integrity over centuries. Western notions of copyright are poorly understood.) Its also helpful for them to understand the oversight provided by admins, as their community will need people to take such roles. So, many thanks! Doctor 17 (talk) 09:01, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Doctor 17 thanks. It's good to see a positive come out of these rather than the negatives it normally ends in. That's a hell of a culture shift for them to deal with, going from exact duplication to summarising - I wish them (and you) good luck for the future. Nthep (talk) 12:40, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
