Welcome Popcrate!

Now that you've joined Wikipedia, there are 47,627,210 registered editors!

Hello, Popcrate. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions!

I'm Paine Ellsworth, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge.

Some pages of helpful information to get you started:
  Introduction to Wikipedia
  The five pillars of Wikipedia
  Editing tutorial
  How to edit a page
  Simplified Manual of Style
  The basics of Wikicode
  How to develop an article
  How to create an article
  Help pages
  What Wikipedia is not
Some common sense Dos and Don'ts:
  Do be bold
  Do assume good faith
  Do be civil
  Do keep cool!
Do maintain a neutral point of view
  Don't spam
  Don't infringe copyright
Don't edit where you have a conflict of interest
  Don't commit vandalism
  Don't get blocked
If you need further help, you can:
  Ask a question
or you can:
  Get help at the Teahouse
or even:
Ask an experienced editor to "adopt" you

Alternatively, leave me a message at my talk page or type {{helpme}} here on your talk page, and someone will try to help.

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:
  Fight vandalism
Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
  Help contribute to articles

  Perform maintenance tasks
Become a member of a project that interests you
  Help design new templates

Remember to always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to this (your talk) page, and a timestamp.
The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own private sandbox for use any time. Perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}}onyour userpage.

Sincerely,  Paine Ellsworth  u/c 08:02, 27 January 2017 (UTC)   (Leave me a message)[reply]

Thanks for your extraordinarily articulate proposal at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(idea_lab)#Accessible_Citations_.28Experiment_with_.PDF.23page_links.29. There are some details to hammer out but there is a good idea in this. Blue Rasberry (talk) 02:53, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!

    ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Popcrate. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Work on an index for Wikipedia collections[edit]

    Hi Popcrate,

You mentioned before that you might be able to help us in finding how to put together indexes (indices?) for Wikipedia collections, e.g., for [[WP:1|Wikipedia 1.0]. I think you were looking over some ideas you had. Are you still available to work on this? If so, would you be able to talk on Skype, Zoom, IRC or other platform of your choice? We're going to put together a new selection in Jan/Feb 2018, and it would be great if we can have an index. We also have another person interested in work on an index. Are you available, and if so, how/when would be best to talk with you about your ideas? Thanks! Walkerma (talk) 15:24, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Could you make sure I have your viewpoint listed correctly on the WP1.0 talk page? Please feel free to elaborate on your ideas for an index there. I'd like us to hold the main discussion there, but maybe schedule an Etherpad or IRC discussion next week if it seems useful. Kelson is busy fixing the bot at the moment, so we won't get our main list for a week or two. Thanks! Walkerma (talk) 17:18, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
