Non-English sources

[edit]

Main article: Wikipedia:Verifiability#Non-English sources

"Because this is the English Wikipedia, English-language sources should be given whenever possible, and should always be used in preference to other language sources of equal caliber. However, do use sources in other languages where appropriate. When directly quoting a source in a different language, please provide both the original-language quotation and an English translation. The original-language quotation aids readers in verification, and the translation makes the information accessible to readers that do not read the original language."

Tango

[edit]

No, you have to very carefully look at en Wikipedia articles related to tango. On English Wikipedia article "Tango (dance)" was supposed to be about ONLY about DANCE of tango. Article "tango (music)" is related ONLY to MUSIC of tango. And article "Argnetine tango" is related to history, music, dance, styles, culture of Argentine Tango (but not Finnish or American tango). On Spanish Wikipedia "Tango" is about "Argentine tango". This is why on es Wikipedia there should be link to "Argentine tango" within their article on "Tango". What needs to be done (and I plan to do it) is to modify English wikipedia article "Tango (dance)" and keep only material related to DANCE itself. What we have now in EN article on "Argentine tango" and "Tango" is cofusing. Please keep the interwiki the way I changed them. It makes sense. Pcirrus2 (talk) 20:07, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Meni (high official)

[edit]

On11 November 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Meni (high official), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the tomb of the overseer of every cultivated place and every desert place (stele pictured) threatens grave robbers with crocodiles and snakes? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Meni (high official). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Meni (high official)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Let's talk about Meni

[edit]

I saw your great article on Meni (high official). How did you come to be interested in this subject ? Also and this is related, how did you find the sources for it ? One thing that surprises me is that the article and the sources, all quite complete, make no mention of Meni's role in the cults of Nyuserre and Sahure nor of his serving in the sun temple of Nyuserre while the MFA stela (see black and white photo in the page here) shows titles in hieroglyphics that read this way. Did you remember the sources talking about this ?Iry-Hor (talk) 10:56, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Iry-Hor. Thank you! Regarding your first question, I just saw his stela in Bristol and it sparkled my interest. Regarding Meni's role in the cults of Nyuserre and Sahure, I don't think it's attested anywhere. The MFA has only one stela of Meni, the other slabs shown in the black and white picture come from elsewhere and as far as I can tell do not mention Meni by name. Porter & Moss do not mention any other materials coming from either mastaba, and stelae as big as those would certainly have been recorded. I can only assume the other pieces are unrelatded. Indeed, the one on the right of Meni's is the Stele of Bebi, so the one mentioning Nyuserre and Sahure must be unrelated too (though I can't locate its origin at this moment). Qoan (talk) 11:23, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: I reverted your edits since apparently they were based on the other objects. I'll try to identify them later; I suppose they should still be at the MFA. Qoan (talk) 11:29, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you ! Sorry for interfering stupidly in the article, thank you for your revert. The dating of Meni's lifetime is very important for the question of the persistence of Merenre's cult during the First Intermediate Period. It seems that most modern archaeologists now place him firmly in the late Sixth Dynasty. I have tried to incorporate a short discussion of this in Merenre's article which I am working on at the moment. If you know more sources on the subject I would be interested.Iry-Hor (talk) 11:37, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No worries! Unfortunately I don't know if I can help much. The article on Meni includes all the sources I could find about his chronology, so you see how most people currently place him on the late Sixth Dynasty, while Fischer placed him on the Ninth based on palaeography of the inscriptions and Borchardt assumed it was Eleventh Dynasty based on the architectural style. I'm not an expert by any means so I cannot elaborate on their findings, and I don't think there's any major source that mentioned in some meaningful way Meni that I didn't include, I tried to be reasonably exhaustive. If I come across something on this topic I'll remember to let you know, but right now I'm afraid I can't help much. Good luck with your research! Qoan (talk) 11:50, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
