Hello, welcome to Wikipedia. Here are some useful links in case you haven't already found them:

  • How to write a great article
  • Naming conventions
  • Manual of Style
  • Wikipedia Policies and guidelines
  • If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

Tip: you can sign your name with ~~~~

    Your account will be renamed

    [edit]

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Spike. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Spike~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Yours,
    Keegan Peterzell
    Community Liaison, Wikimedia Foundation

Perhaps you can contact the other Spike through email and he will hopefully be OK with giving the name up. I did that long ago when there was another Soap on dewiki, who, similarly, had had the name a long time but was inactive and didn't really care what his username was. (However I decided not to pursue it, since I rarely leave enwiki, and because I figured some sort of global SUL would eventually happen.) Soap 12:46, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion. I have sent an e-mail. But do you know what the other Spike and me would have to do if he would accept my request? Is there a template to use or something like that? Spike (talk) 23:48, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited The Gold Rush, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tom Murray. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

{{NFL predraft}} (talk): Would you mind if I copy your version into NFL predraft/sandbox and make edits? Or would you like to develop this yourself? -DePiep (talk) 09:33, 25 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@DePiep: I have no problems with you copying it and making edits. Thanks for the help. Spike (talk) 10:06, 25 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not familiar with NFL or foot-inch at all. But I got interested since the template could use improvements IMO. Today, if you see any blocking reasons for the current proposal (formatting & layout only!), then please say so. The issue of metric values will follow. -DePiep (talk) 21:35, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I won't be reverting, but just FYI, at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/June 14, 2018, the redirect wasn't a mistake, it's per WP:NOTBROKEN. On a few minor points such as this one, TFA is more likely to follow MOS guidance than other sections of the Main Page. We'll probably have a discussion on this point at WT:TFA in the not-too-distant future. - Dank (push to talk) 11:01, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
