I tried to edit United States, but instead of the "edit" button, there was a "View source" button, and it said that the page was protected from editing. What is going on with that? Technical glitch or something else? USA 20:22, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The page is under what as known as semi-protection, which means accounts that are new, such as yours, or IP addresses are unable to edit the article. This is due to the large amount of vandalism that was taking place on the page, and is a means to help prevent the page from being vandalized further. I need suggestions on how to expand my new article Sports Zone USA 17:38, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You'll need to find reliable sources that talk about Sports Zone in significant detail. You'd then want to cite those sources (see WP:REFBEGIN for help doing that) and summarize what they say about Sports Zone to form the content of the article. Reliable sources do not include sites affiliated with Sports Zone, they need to be wholly independent of the subject of the article while discussing the subject in detail. --Nick—Contact/Contribs 18:11, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@The United States of America is the best: You previously pinged me in this message, but then removed it from your talk page. I'd like to address it nonetheless, because it is important that you understand one of Wikipedia's most critical policies. You wrote "I didn't get my information from a published source. I just knew it in my mind." In that case, the content can not stay on Wikipedia. Wikipedia's verifiability policy is very important. It says that every fact on Wikipedia needs to be backed up by a reliable, published source. Your personal knowledge is not an acceptable source. Our readers, when reading your article, need to be able to follow up by reading the sources from which the content is based and verifying, for themselves, that all the facts are true.

At this stage, your article does not assert notability. Sources wholly independent of the of Sports Zone need to have written about Sports Zone in detail in order for an article on Sports Zone to exist. See WP:GNG and WP:CORP. In my opinion, the article could presently be speedily deleted under criterion A7 of the Criteria for Speedy Deletion. I'm going to give you an opportunity to improve the article before tagging it, but that doesn't mean someone else won't tag it for deletion. I would highly recommend that this article be moved to Draft space where you will have more time to work on improving it and where it wouldn't be subject to immediate deletion. If you're in agreement with that, let me know, and I'll perform the move. Cheers, Nick—Contact/Contribs 17:01, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done: I moved the content to my user subpage. USA 12:57, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Wikipedia autoconfirmed users requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Created by this user for the sole purpose of adding themselves to this category

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nominationbyvisiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Please stop changing the redirects for these pages. Take it to the DC Talk page please - the proper targets for those redirects may be chosen not based on spelling but rather on the most likely target page being sought. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 02:30, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your warning for removing PROD template

Here, you gave IP user 152.131.10.72 a template warning for removing a PROD tag you'd placed on an article. In fact, any editor may remove a PROD tag for any reason. While it is better to fix the problem that led to the proposed deletion tag, it's not mandatory. The IP editor acted correctly, and in fact your restoration of the template after its removal was improper. See WP:Contested. If you think the article still should be deleted, take it to AfD. Thanks. JohnInDC (talk) 02:42, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@JohnInDC: Actually, I gave the warning for removing the refimprove tag without fixing the references. It's just that they removed both tags in one edit, so I had no choice but to restore them both. USA 12:02, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You have more choices than just "undo". You could, for example, just copy the refimprove template from an earlier version and paste it in as an edit, without restoring the PROD as well. As a new editor, you may be getting a bit ahead of yourself in some areas here - it might be a good idea to get the basics down before venturing into more nuanced areas like article deletion and warnings. Good luck going forward! JohnInDC (talk) 13:30, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As people may have noticed, I'm interested in United States-related articles. However, I can't find much to improve in a major manner, so I'm stuck to things like copyediting, redirecting, and project namespace. Suggestions? USA 00:20, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Try joining WikiProject: United States and work on improving some stubs or start class articles. --Cameron11598 (Talk) 00:29, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest Category:United States stubs as well. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 04:36, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want me to merge Archive 2 into Archive and then delete Archive 2? --NeilN talk to me 16:36, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@NeilN: You said that talk pages archives are not deleted. Therefore, I double redirected it first to archive 1 and then to archive. If you can delete both archive 1 and archive 2 and leave just archive, that would be appreciated. Otherwise, just leave it the way it is. USA 19:45, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I can merge archive 1 and archive 2 into Archive and then delete them. This preserves all the previous history in Archive which is the goal of WP:DELTALK. Let me know, please --NeilN talk to me 19:52, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@NeilN: What is there to merge, since both archive 1 and archive 2 are empty in terms of content? USA 20:19, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Merge the histories. [1] We don't care if you blank the page - that's up to you. But the history has to remain. --NeilN talk to me 20:38, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@NeilN: Alright, go ahead. USA 15:54, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How do you make text turn a color like red, and how do you make text larger than its default size? Also, how do you create an editnotice for your user and/or user talk page? USA 02:29, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  1. <span style="color:red">Red text</span>
  2. Why do you want to do this? Using large text in posts is strongly discouraged.
  3. Edit the page. There should be a red "Page notice" link on the right

--NeilN talk to me 02:45, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Most colors have templates. So {{red|text}} will do text. The template pages lists a lot of other colors as well. If you want to change it to something else please see H:Color. Please note that colors in articles need to comply with the accessibility standards for people with color blindness.

To make font bigger you would use the <big></big> tags. So Text

To make an edit notice for your user pages see WP:EDN#Creating editnotices and click on the blue buttons. The red link NeilN mentions doesn't seem to be available to non-admins as I cannot see it on my own page.
